BB357,
I am interested in TMC after I retire from the Navy, too. Your goals and mine are alot alike....LOL...my end goal is to operate under my own Authority. I have started writting a business plan and have been playing with fixed/variable expense spreadsheets. I finished school and tested with DMV here in Virginia two weeks ago.
Devil Dice runs a flat for Landstar if you have any questions about them.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks, and good luck to you also. I too, was in the Navy. 11 years, 10 months and two weeks. TRF Kings Bay, USS West (By God) Virginia SSBN 736, USS Stonewall Jackson SSBN 634, USS Sierra AD-18. -
Its hard to tell regarding the rates cause I am limited to 500 miles. I did manage to pull a load paying A $1.75 mile off of internet truckstop. After researching several boards those 2 had the most available loads for flatbed work ( i dont know about other work). Some of the brokers will post on both so rate wise its about the same. The onyl bad thing is transcore is $99 a month while (internet truckstop is $35). Transcore has roughly double the available loads (for what I am doing).
OOIDA's load board pulls from the transcore load board but there is about 1/2 as mich frieght (OOIDA is less than half the price of transcore).
So in a nutshell you get what you pay for!
I suggest trying each or both of them (as I am) and make a decision a few months down the line as to which one to stick with. -
Jason- IMHO you are going to have a tough time making it if you are using load boards for Cali intrastate flatbed. Flatbed rates suck in this part of the country. You're competing against a bazillion Mexicans & Hondurans who will work harder than I want to, for a lot less $$$.
Get directory assistance for Santa Rosa on the line & ask for Rich Doss Trucking and Dennis Floyd Trucking. Call & talk to them, they are both reputable brokers. Dennis Floyd has tons of work- he also has tons of sub-haulers. Rich Doss has terminals in Hayward & LA as well as Santa Rosa. That Trex load you got out of Fernley may well have been his freight.
I think you will do better finding a solid broker and sticking with them. Understand that you will have to earn their trust over time to get consistent good freight. That means that if can't get out of Eureka until 6 PM and they want it in LA the next morning you have it there.

Where are you Pharm? I did not get un-loaded untill 11pm last night so, I slept in the truck and drove the rest of the way home this morning.

I'm trying to enjoy my 3 days home, amidst all the hand-wringing trying to make sense of my numbers. I got major catching up to do on ifta and logs as well. Can't seem to find the motivation today, maybe tomorrow will put some fire under me. Cleaning fish tanks today... yay. -

My numbers this week. $3,200.00 of freight 2,600 miles driven. 3 nights in the sleeper. Not bad for a part time truck-driver and a full time counsler for Freight-Pro Transportation.

Do you ever get stuck with loads under $1.15?
