Always seems to be $400 every time I cross a QC scale. It used to happen so often I bid it right into my quotes to brokers.

Money, some more money and if you give them attitude, an escort back to the border. I got popped the first time in there with Big Dog Motorcycles going to a dealer show in Mascouche. They got me for the speed limiter which was a fine although I don't remember the cost. After that I'd stop at Peterbilt in Champlain, pay the $50 to get turned down then stop on the way out and they'd open it back up for free.

The bigger fine however, I got caught going from the Hilton in Laval back to the dealership in Mascouche on a brand new rigid chopper in February. Broke a couple laws, cannot ride a motorcycle in Quebec between Nov 15th and March 15th (or something close to those dates) and cannot have a rigid frame bike built after 1984 (socialist medical care at its finest). After all was said and done had to get a wrecker for the bike and take a ride to the judge to pay the fines in cash. Was over $1000 however the owner of the dealership came to get me, paid the fines because he felt bad he didn't tell me of these draconian laws before I got there.

During those dates you can get a trip permit to ride your bike to the closest border to leave the country or from the closest border to home if your coming back, but not on a rigid built after 1984.

Mechanical engines aren't exempt from the speed limiter deal? How the heck they expect a guy to make that work?

It's a box that works as a cruise control and speed limiter. If memory serves me correctly it was made by King Controls. However I do not know if it's required on mechanical engines or if they even check them.
