The very first vehicle with a manual transmission that I ever rode in was a school bus (city kid). I was fascinated. Had to touch the dust boot.

My first road truck (solo...I started out running team) was a 2 stick MACK with the half cab and window in the back. Went from a Shaker COE to a 2 stick daycab with no AC. I feel like a wimp nowadays.

The mindset was completely different in those days. The boss had different trucks with different drivetrains and being low man on the totem pole, you drove what was available. I complained about my lead driver picking up some woman with stinky cookies, and he told me to grab the Mack and go load a load and get gone. No, no motel. Well, I’d rather be sleeping in a driver’s seat than stuck in a truck with stinky cookies.

Why not? It’s the patented see-thru window block. It allows one to actually SEE what’s going on in the combustion cham.... err, area, and thus fine tune the fuel/air ratio.

Same here. I’d sit right behind the driver every day and watch him work the clutch and shift. Then go home and lay my bicycle on its side and use the front wheel as the steering wheel. Jam a stick in the dirt for a shifter. I drove many a mile like that.

Done my share of day cab sleepin myself. Only 2-sticker I ever drove was an R-model Mack, 5x3. I was just a kid, never got very good at it.

I learned to respect that truck though. Remove my hat every time I drove it. Think I’ve still got that divot in the top of my skull....

My starting time is midnight ;)

Chicago may look green right now but get over to Naperville and it’ll be a different story!

I got no hours anyway... gotta take a reset so today is my holiday. Not sure how tomorrow is gonna go... 720 Miles till Petro Waterloo. Uh-huh, I dun think so. But if there is a chance, I’m chasing it
