If you have a clean record please don't volunteer for Swift/Knight. There are many better companies.

I just bought a house on a grass strip to fly my airplane so I don't think I will be moving lol , Not sure if any of these companies will hire right out of cdl school though. I heard Old dominion did doubles from Indianapolis to Nashville , that might be fun !

Probably hard to get hired with these companies with no experience , not sure though.

It's not a shortage of drivers.

It is a shortage of PAY on one hand AND a shortage of good strong stock to keep running through the winter mountains for weeks at a time when soft youngsters coddled by parents sit fat on xbox. If you recall your Lincolns History from your State, he worked hard on very little and it made him strong into his old age. But like all things there is a beginning and a ending.

If your health can meet and get a longform 2 year DOT card at your age, then you can sing and dance in the streets happy and blessed are you to have it. Without medicines, waivers and so on. You can do whatever you want.

BUT BE CAREFUL if you get to Chicago, you are going to look upon a land of russian, italians and so on running trucks so cheaply and paying people so little by the time they clear the BS out of their eyes and mind and sit on tired bones wondering where is the money to see none from those taking advantage of them.

And you wonder why trucking is hard to make a dollar. To be with a company that rolls the trucks as a business and a living rather than to be greedy or otherwise not upright.

You have been around long enough to see those who have their hand into your pocket while offering you a trinket or drink that tempts you.

    Now.

You are retired. Great. But... Trucking is something that will require work. I hope that you do this work in joyful for itself and contentment that you have finally got to maybe doing something you might have always wanted to do in life.

And that Sir, would be what most people will sell their entire Camelot for and never have in life. So. If you gonna drive. Get to it. BE VERY careful of the money. It will hollow you out and leave you with nothing like a soiled dove in the night while you have had too much whiskey.

OR it will bury you in money you cannot spend, for you to store against a future of any kind. If not for you, then maybe for those who you love and cherish in your family Line.

Good luck. You don';t need permission. Be careful when people talk about the things you hear in Korea or in America or any place. You can have the world over but it's the same all over.

Wow that's deep :) I never felt like a soiled dove after having too much whiskey LOL
I am just looking to " Maybe " drive a truck for a few years. If it happens that might be great and if it don't that will not be a terrible thing.
I cant start now because I am still in Korea.
If I find a job that suits me and they will hire me right out of CDL school with home daily or maybe a day or 2 out now and then and weekends off then I will take it. I am not interested in OTR although if it was just the wife and I then maybe. But we have a house and dogs and a side business so that is why I need home time.
I was just thinking that maybe somewhere there might be a company that will hire a new grad give a little training and then send them out and back on runs that will get me home daily.

So it is looking like that might not be possible and I can live with that.
But if there is a company looking for that I would jump on it :)

Well, OTR is just one part. You can do well with a small truck locally as well. Anything is possible. Heck even a 1 ton and trailer is it. IF you can find someone too stiff and sore to take another weekend in it for example.

The worst thing about this is that the Regulations and the Law has begun to dance on everything trucking. Its almost as if you cannot hardly move because you will be in violation and pay money or lose your job or something or other. It's getting pretty tough.

One option if you are bent on weekend would be milk tanking. If you think you live in a area that runs off Milk Tankers, there is a need for weekend men to give the week ones a rest.
