If you think ISX parts are cheaper than a Cat,you're in for a rude awakening.

You really need to look at the ISX soot issues. The EGR ISX engines FILLED filters on a regular basis, cam problems..... fuel pump problems. S60 has none of the above, n14 also.
An EGR ISX will NEVER get anywhere close to the fuel mileage of a 12.7 S60. EVER.
You will hear no I told you so's from me. Not my speed. But you need to make truck buying choices with solid facts and not gut instinct and likes and dislikes. It's a business, treat it like a business you will make out fine.
A Columbia or Coranado glider that is HALF as old and HALF the mileage will be TWICE the truck.
Also, you say 1 owner truck, did you run a Rig Dig report?
    Good luck sir!

    OK troops!

I have carefully considered all the advice offered in this thread, including sleeping on it.

Final decision: I walked away from the 2006 KW T800. Too many miles, too many questions, too many potential issues.

See? I DO listen! At least, on occasion anyway.

So I'm back in the market for a truck. @Elroythekid , I'm gonna go look at that Columbia you found in Defiance, OH either this week or next. Much appreciation for that lead!

Also considering some other somewhat newer trucks with much lower mileage, including the one I'm in now. It's not perfect, but I KNOW this truck and what's been done to it. And I have access to ALL the maintenance paperwork since new. Nice advantage there. Plus, I've been actually driving this truck for 4 months now.

Please keep the advice coming! I'm sure there are other people considering a truck purchase, and this thread could be right handy for someone else, too.

And again, many thanks and much appreciation in advance!

The truck you pick can potentially make or break you. Do ALL your home work. If you can find any reason to NOT buy a truck, don't. Ask LOTS of questions. I've owned a pre emission freightliner classic with a Detroit, a brand new 2010 Crapcadia that almost finished me in one year, then a 2007 Pete 387 with an accert c15 that burnt to the ground, then a brand new 2013 Volvo 780, and now a 2012 Columbia Schneider Glider. And I have just a fraction of the experience some guys and gals here have.
Mine it, ask the questions. You have everything to lose.

If your looking down the Glider road. Make sure it was a Detroit factory rebuilt engine. Not a local shop built. Dyno, blow by, sample. Talk to the previous owner. There are LOTS of them in the US, up here gliders are not so plentiful so I had to take what I could get. I paid for it a little at first, but in comparison to some of the repair bills my friends are having with their new computerized emission trucks I am VERY thankful I bought what I bought.
    Good luck!

Your mechanic is way out of this world and reality, 45k is funny, you can buy 99 volvo for 7-10k or cheaper and detroit 12.7 is cheapest to repair/overhaul 6-11k for overhaul, I have a friend that did same thing same truck same engine and he can't sell it for 32k, as for driver is not that easy to find a driver for 20 year old truck and y would anyone want to drive that truck when most company's offer new or newer truck, and anything 2015 or newer doesn't really brake that much, only trucks 2008-13 have issues

Well I happend to have 2016 volvo 500hp d13 3.08 ratio and I can tell honest to god truth I have 380k miles on it and only thing I ever replaced was battery's and one belt tensioner (plus regular maintainance), it might have issues tomorrow I don't know god knows but so far I am very happy with it, I never had to do parked regan or ever had dpf issues and I have 10-15 friends with similar trucks and they don't complain, only friend complaining is the one with 2019 Pete and 2011 Volvo, it is possible I won't say you r lying about your friend spending 12k but I never heard of it on 2015 or never volvo truck

As @REO6205 said get an oil analysis before making a call on it. Having a pa inspection sticker is a good thing, eveen more so if it's recent (I have a pa inspection license so I know what the truck has to go thru). Go underneath it with a fine tooth comb due to the PA registration, if it ran local/regional in the Northeast there is a good chance it is a rusty #### box but I'm sure you already knew that being up there. While rot probably isn't a issue it's the rust on everything else that can be a problem. Example: when I do King pins I set pricing I can give people but trucks from the Northeast end up being hourly due to fighting with rust. It could be a great truck but buying a used truck I feel like you should have the money set aside for at least a in frame just so you don't go bankrupt in a worse case scenario.

You sir are correct. Anything with a after treatment system can be prone to a headache you will feel all the way down to your toes. That's why the megas and big fleets usually swap out before 5 years so they get the good times with them and they start having problems after they go to the auction and end up on loan mountain's lot.

Let me know where to get 99 Volvos with solid frame and body for $7k, I will buy 5 (no junk from Chicago though).
While yes,45k seems like a lot of money, when you think about it, it's a decent deal for someone who wants a fully rebuilt 99 truck with no ELD.
