You really need to look at the ISX soot issues. The EGR ISX engines FILLED filters on a regular basis, cam problems..... fuel pump problems. S60 has none of the above, n14 also.
An EGR ISX will NEVER get anywhere close to the fuel mileage of a 12.7 S60. EVER.
You will hear no I told you so's from me. Not my speed. But you need to make truck buying choices with solid facts and not gut instinct and likes and dislikes. It's a business, treat it like a business you will make out fine.
A Columbia or Coranado glider that is HALF as old and HALF the mileage will be TWICE the truck.
Also, you say 1 owner truck, did you run a Rig Dig report?
Good luck sir!MartinFromBC, kwswan and brsims Thank this. -
OK troops!
I have carefully considered all the advice offered in this thread, including sleeping on it.
Final decision: I walked away from the 2006 KW T800. Too many miles, too many questions, too many potential issues.
See? I DO listen! At least, on occasion anyway.
So I'm back in the market for a truck. @Elroythekid , I'm gonna go look at that Columbia you found in Defiance, OH either this week or next. Much appreciation for that lead!
Also considering some other somewhat newer trucks with much lower mileage, including the one I'm in now. It's not perfect, but I KNOW this truck and what's been done to it. And I have access to ALL the maintenance paperwork since new. Nice advantage there. Plus, I've been actually driving this truck for 4 months now.
Please keep the advice coming! I'm sure there are other people considering a truck purchase, and this thread could be right handy for someone else, too.
And again, many thanks and much appreciation in advance!MartinFromBC Thanks this. -
Mine it, ask the questions. You have everything to lose.
If your looking down the Glider road. Make sure it was a Detroit factory rebuilt engine. Not a local shop built. Dyno, blow by, sample. Talk to the previous owner. There are LOTS of them in the US, up here gliders are not so plentiful so I had to take what I could get. I paid for it a little at first, but in comparison to some of the repair bills my friends are having with their new computerized emission trucks I am VERY thankful I bought what I bought.
Good luck!brsims Thanks this. -

As @REO6205 said get an oil analysis before making a call on it. Having a pa inspection sticker is a good thing, eveen more so if it's recent (I have a pa inspection license so I know what the truck has to go thru). Go underneath it with a fine tooth comb due to the PA registration, if it ran local/regional in the Northeast there is a good chance it is a rusty #### box but I'm sure you already knew that being up there. While rot probably isn't a issue it's the rust on everything else that can be a problem. Example: when I do King pins I set pricing I can give people but trucks from the Northeast end up being hourly due to fighting with rust. It could be a great truck but buying a used truck I feel like you should have the money set aside for at least a in frame just so you don't go bankrupt in a worse case scenario.

While yes,45k seems like a lot of money, when you think about it, it's a decent deal for someone who wants a fully rebuilt 99 truck with no ELD.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.
