I just bought one of those yesterday...6 pin to 4 so I can use my Ranger SRA 198 on my President McKinley!

The stock President is just fine but it's the same size as my Midland's GMRS mic. I keep grabbing the wrong one and there won't be any mistake having that Ranger on there (also on the "gear keeper") now.

Kinda straying, but what do you guys think of the newer President radios? (The ones that own one anyway). I bought a new President Richard that I found a deal on. I don’t know anything about it because it hasn’t arrived here yet. Well it’s not a side band radio , that’s not a huge issue to me as I have plenty of radios that talk on sideband if I want. but I like the fact that the Richard has a lot of features packed in. First, SCAN! I love a scanning radio so I can monitor all channels when I want to. 50 watts, echo, and beep all in a small radio seems to be a good value to me.
I did pay attention that it has a six pin microphone so I ordered that little adapter that you guys were just talking about. I probably overpaid for the jumper at $9. But one of the reviews I was reading yesterday somebody had mentioned that the stock microphone that this radio comes with this pretty hard to beat.
I don’t know about that last statement, I know that some stock microphones are better than others however I have never found a stock microphone to be better than any of the power microphones that I currently run .Windmill Hill Thanks this. -
If you have a HAM license then I suppose its a cheep 10 meter radio, if you dont have a HAM license then you have no business with it except for monitoring, at which point the mic does not matter either.
If you don't have at least a Novice License maybe you should study up and get one, before spending money on radios that cover where you may not belong. -
My question was for somebody that actually owns this radio. But I’ll keep your ham advice in mind

Electret microphones offer amazing fidelity at a low cost. Too bad these radios aren't always able to accurately reproduce The Sounds injected into them without being drastically modified.
If the radio sounds bad with the stock microphone this is one of those situations where you can definitely blame the radio or the person who worked on the radio.
Windmill Hill Thanks this. -
Well today I got treated to a surprise and fed ex showed up and it wasn’t supposed to be here until tomorrow so this radio came in. The locals tell me with the stock microphone even, it’s one of the best sounding radios they’ve heard me have yet and so far I really like it.
This microphone is so small and cheap feeling it almost reminds me of something that would be on a child’s toy. So far I’m really liking this radio, and it was money well spent.Windmill Hill and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
You'll be happy with it, Kevin. I've also had very good reports on how clear it sounds with the stock mic, I just prefer my Ranger noise cancelling. In my 4 wheeler I run with the window down (no a/c) so I want to keep as much interference out as possible. I should receive my adapter, new coax and a new antenna tomorrow so I'll chime in and let you know how it sounds. The YouTube review that MikesRadioRepair did on the McKinley he states that you could hear a mouse fart in a wind storm at 100 yards away with that stock mic
