    When I switched ecm's I didn't touch the plumbing for the wastegate and it worked just fine. The 6nz ecm dosen't compute the amount of fuel I'm burning correctly it say's that I'm burning about 10% less than I'm actually burning.

    Can anyone tell me what the fuel pressure should be for this engine? (2004 C15 MBN single turbo).
    One tech said no less than 80 psi at idle, over 100 psi wot;
    Another said 60 psi at idle.
    My engine has 77 psi at idle, 83 psi at wot. Check was done while engine still in cold mode.

    DDS, you stated earlier that less than 40 psi will cause white smoke and stumble, but do you feel that anything over 40 psi is acceptable?

    Was the fuel pressure checked under load? Was it checked for air in the inlet and return under load. I have seen a injector leaking combustion in to the fuel rail cause this. Have the tech install a sight glass on the return and a fuel pressure gauge. go for a drive. 40 psi under load is still very low but have not seen miss and smoke until it drops below 40.

    I went by the shop that did the cam install late yesterday to discuss some possible causes, whenever I mentioned fuel pressure, he offered me the use of his fuel gauge setup, as he was closing for the weekend. All I did was simply plug it into the orifice on filter head and crank the truck. A different tech had advised routing the return into a bucket and checking for air while idling parked. With my limited knowledge, I am picturing loosening the return line at the filter head, attaching a clear hose where it could be routed on top of the hood enabling a visual while driving down the road. As I will be putting this temporary line together myself, I am wondering how much pressure will this clear hose be subjected to? Would a clear hose that is available at the home improvement centers be OK.
    Thanks again DDS

    Ran a hose from the return line at filter head, to bucket half filled with fuel, wanting to check for air in return line. I plugged the fitting on the filter head where the return hose normally attaches. The only way I could get the truck to crank and run was to kink the clear hose I had added to the return line, watching the fuel pressure gauge to insure the system had about 20 psi.
    The clear temporary hose I added was 1/2" ID. Was this too big of a hose to allow the truck to run while the hose was "free flowing" the return fuel into a bucket, thus requiring me to kink it for pressure, or is this part of my problem?

    Fuel pressure at cold idle = 78psi idle at operating temp = 80psi
    bobtailing down the road in cold mode = 83psi
    bobtailing at operating temp = 85-90psi

    Wondering if these are normal psi?

    That's normal fuel pressures.

    Does this truck still have the stock ECM on it??????

    Is it still a serial number MBN ECM???

    Turbo and injectors are stock, ECM is original, HOWEVER, an independent mechanic supposedly flashed it to 550. DDS has stated that there is no 550 uprate for an MBN, so I am confused as to whether it was flashed to a 525, or changed over to a 6NZ. ( I did gain considerable power, and MPGs improved almost 1MPG after the flash, please read my previous post #15 in this thread for the story.)

    Monday a/m I'm intending to borrow a factory 6NZ 550 ECM from a shop in another town so that I can hook it up to my motor and find out if the cam is compatible to my ecm, or not. If I have time, I will also run my truck to Cat, and get a printout on my ecm, which will hopefully tell me exactly what was done to it.

    Thanks for your help, Mr. Haney, and I would appreciate any input you may have that might end this nightmare

    Thanks for your interest, it's been an ordeal!
    Tried the ecm from a 2WS, and stumble/white smoke went away. DDS has shipped an ecm flashed to a 6NZ file, UPS says ETA # 1330 tomorrow, should be rolling shortly after. Will post the (hopefully) good news. My only concern right now, is that the injectors are compatible with the 6NZ cam/ecm setup. My injectors are part # 10R1000, which I haven't heard alot about.

    Updating my thread;
    Recieved the ECM from DDS, installed, and roadtested at 11:30 that night. All OK!

    Put around three thousand miles on truck, short trips, from (Lake Charles, LA to Monty, AL the longest.)
    Fuel mileage was 5.5 now 6.37
    Power gain VERY impressive, EVEN though I have this bad(?) habit of operating at lower RPMs (1250-1500), which seems to be below the "power band" of this cam. Whenever I increase my range to 1600-1700; WOW!!!:biggrin_25525:
    Somewhere along the line, I lost some of my boost, about 24 psi now versus 31 before. This I first noticed with the borrowed 2WS ECM, then also with the 6NZ from DDS, so the problem must be with my turbo system, not ECM related. I did convert over to the old style wastegate, eliminating the box behind the fuel filter head, and there was no difference. Hadn't had time to check into that problem, last trip a bearing fell apart in my tranny,(RTLOC 16909AT2, converted to 13) throwing shafts out of alignment, peices got on top of gears, big KABLOOEY!!!!!!!
    Shop called with good news: "I think we can save the case"
    bad news: "rest is pretty much trashed"
    more bad news: "whoever installed the clutch put the plates in backwards and the dampner springs are about wore through, need to replace clutch also"

    This is almost not fun anymore!

    blade Thanks this.
