Hello all. I have spent the past few days reading alot of posts in all of the areas. I espicially liked Bronc riders posts on becoming an O/O.
This is my second go round as an O/O. My last truck was a 94 T800 that I finally fixed up right before I sold it. I thought I would do the college thing for the past year and realized that it was not going to pay off in a job.
So, I just signed papers on a 2004 KW900B with the aerodyne sleeper.
The engine is a C15 casterated to 415hp, 265"wb, 10 speed, 3.70 ratio, full locking rear end. I know what some people on the site are going to say about aerodynamics and such, but after 9 years of driving other people's trucks, I get to get my dream truck.
Not too sure on how well it is speced for OTR. I'm kind of worried about the ratio. Seems a little high to me, but this is my first large car. I know there are some docks in NJ that will take all day to get into now.
Anyways, thanks alot to you that post a bunch and help out us new guys.

265 inches is short. My short hood pete is almost that and it turns cirles around any shaker. then again KW's turning radius sucks.
the 3.70 are low (numericly high) especially for a 10 speed. your fuel mileage is gona suck with that 10 speed and a cat. cats like to stay in a very narrow power band and you have to rev the pizz out of them to shift a 10.
I am getting 4mpg so don't feel too bad. -
Thanks,
I was afraid of that. I guess I'll get in it and run hard and hopefully swap to a 13 speed at least in the fall. I run reefer to NJ and PA so I am fearing the bunny slopes now. -
What trans and tires do you have and I can crunch numbers for you with different trans and rears.wade Thanks this. -
Wade, I'm curious what that W9 will give ya in MPG with that hood and drive train. Mines got a 500 CAT w 3.55s and I get 5.6 - 6.3, but I'm almost always at 78,000+. I doubt your hood will hinder mpg thaaat much. Not as much as not having a bird banger above the sleeper, which I wish I had at times. I bet if you're relatively light, and drive it right, you'll get over 6 mpg, even with 3.70s.
WTF was this thing neutered to 415 hp for?wade Thanks this. -
with that 415hp he's gona need those gears or more.. I'd send it in for a HP boost myself.
my 359 has 3.73 gears and with LP24.5's rubber and a 13speed I am cruising 70 at 1500 rpm. wich is way too low for my big cam but just about right for his cat -
Thnaks for the responses,
I am not sure if there are different versions of brands of trannys, but I have an Eaton. My tire size is 24.5LP.
I was told it was tuned down for fuel mileage by the previous owner as it was a local truck. Before that, it was an over the road truck going to CA. I am the third owner.
With the previous truck I was almost fleased into, (04 Columbia), I was grossing around 70,000-72,000.
I am thinking if I get around 5.5-6, I will be happy. I plan on getting it tuned up within a couple of runs.Maybe, not sure where I want it set at.
I will have to get the sn for the engine to see what the most I can go up to.
Again, I really appreciate your help. -
MM if you want to get rid of the 24's for some 22.5's let me know. 1500rpm is "too low" for the BC? Where do they like to be?
WADE= Yes there are different versions of tranny's. IE- Eaton 10spd has 117 different models. 13spd has 16 models and 18spd has 26.
Although there really are only about 4 different final gear ratio's. Low on the passenger side tranny is an ID plate. Or call the dealer to run your VIN and give you specifics on your truck. -
22.5's look gay on a pete.
the big cams like to run 1600 to 1900 rpm. Drive it like you stole it driver!! they will get there best fuel milage about 1700 cruising. below 1500 it just falls flat on it's face. I run 12th gear all the time unless empty, very light or hauling ###
