I think driver would get more pay. Because trucking companies can't afford to only run a truck say 50 hours a week. They need the drivers help to run the truck 70 hours of driving time. So driver sit for free and figure they can make up for that also because we get paid by the mile.

The trucking companies will be forced to ask better rates per mile or detention pay or faster loading and unloading. Because they can't expect the drivers to keep sitting for free.

The 70 hour work week has value. If people give away their time for free then it has less value. Since sitting to load and unload is off the clock or off the 70 hours. It has $0 value. People will care and it will have value when sitting to load or unload is included in the 70 hours. It will have a lot of value because the truck will stop and that is something the trucking companies and shippers and receivers do care about.

I dont get detention pay, really dont need it. The dedication account I'm on has a two hour wait rule. After 2 hours from appointment time, if we arent getting cases to be loaded, we drive away. Its the terms set by our company and the customers corporate office. So they can get mad, but if they try to take it up the chain the only question will be, "If you knew you had the appointment, why weren't you ready?" We have multiple pick ups daily all for the same customer. So if we get behind waiting on one location, multiple other locations suffer, and thats just not fair and their corporate office knows it.

I do get layover pay and will actually get 3 days paid starting today. Never had a problem getting that. Just got back from a LONG run and looking forward to a lot of paid sleep before leaving again. Lol

simplified in a nutshell....ya getting screwed anyway....cuz for some reasons truckers allow legislators, lobbyist, non drivers to ram all kinds of archaic rules, regs, bs statutes etc....right up every hole possible, itz goes same as usual.....complain, do nothing, ultimately apathetic compliance, drivers loose more and more, detention or not, knowingly or unknowingly, ya aint getting what cha worth.....we all know this....so "what?" and "why" is ........moot?

I don't need sleeper pay because I am just sleeping. The location doesn't matter, regardless of where I am, I have to do it. And if my bed is not comfortable, I'd take the same steps as if I was home to correct it. In fact, it's really, really nice waking up and already being at the work site! I don't have to go through a morning routine which I never really liked and drive through morning rush hour just to get to the location where I could start making money. I am already at the location where I am ready to make some money!

I no longer have a dog in the fight. I'm paid hourly. But I'm going to throw my two cents in.
Out of all the things wrong with this industry is this really the one thing you want the government to step in and change?
I can think of more meaningful fights.

I'm paid quite well for detention, although it happens infrequently.
