Drivers, share your experience's here if you use a Vehicle Video Recorder. Also, your evaluations on the various Video Recording units will be greatly appreciated. The below attachment is a unit with a 32 GB storage capacity and capability to monitor the perimeter of a truck via up to four cameras. I haven't obtained this unit cost; but, I feel that it easily exceeds $1,000 and that is no doubt, a very conservative estimate. The manufacturer is Rearse. Forum rules forbid links, so Google away, if interested. I will, later in the day, post some more moderately priced units. Most capable of one camera input and storage capacities of approx. 1 hour, at which time, barring any need to preserve a record, it overwrites the stored data. Most units have a GPS capability and units like the Rearse, I believe, record speed, etc., and are legally admissible in a court of law. I'm sure no driver needs me to tell them the value of that capability.

When the unit price is available, I will post it to this thread. In the next day or so, I have discovered a number of units that appear promising and forum members have posted owning recorders well under $200. Thank you for your participation.

I have the 145.00 one from stuntcams just add the appropriate prefix and suffix to stuntcams and your there.
What this unit does is it records in 6 min clips and when your sd card is full it starts over and records over the first file and so on. It never stops recording and is fairly decent video quality with a good wide angle lens. With it on my dash it will see a car passing when its approx (guessing here) between front wheel and bumper. So basically anything from my front wheels forward gets recordedLast edited: May 22, 2009
Brickhauler and MoneyCat Thank this. -
It's a good idea. I've been thinking about getting one. Thanks for doing the research. I wish I always had the same trailer so I could mount back there also.

I want to get one, it would have saved my insurance company $4800 last year. I got hit by a UPS truck and they would not pay. Video of what happened would have made a difference. I'm going to look into the one from stuntcams, thanks

I had a UPS driver deliberately drive over my tarps one day while I was trying to fold them out of his way. -
While ther are recorders in the price range you mention, I personaly like the Stuntcam DVR ($195) is upgradable to 500GB!!! Also, capable of monitoring up to 4 cameras simultaneously (cameras not included w/DVR). They offer IR Nightvision cameras for $109 ea. The DVR can be set to run continuously while driving and motion activated when parked for security. I'm sold on it and intend to purchase the above setup within the next 30-45 days. I believe I read that you can hook it up to your laptop also.
Thank you for a GREAT reference to an excellent selection of affordable recorders from basic to full-featured. I really see no need to search further.Last edited: May 25, 2009

Don't know if anyones interested but I could post a 6 min clip of my unit that is the HD dash cam from stunt cams........I guess I could put it on youtube for people interested. I'm not with stuntcams by any means just trying to help people to make a decision. I bought mine when they first came out so I had no idea what to expect but I'm happy with it. I very rarely even look at the saved videos anymore I just let it continuely loop. Guess I'll only look at it if I need to and I hope I never do, but in this biz never say never

stranger Thanks this.

Does anyone know anything about the iDrive cams, in paticular the iDrive 2.0 - Glass Mount Camera. The price is only $89.95, and the specs sound good. It is sold by Electro Flip.
