Just wondering if anyone else is checking this forum using an I-Phone? I've just started. This forum is very I-phone friendly. I just wish the page buttons were a little bigger. Can't type nearly as fast but at least now I can check threads I'm following. Between my USA Today app, this message board, the weather channel app, and soduko, I'm never bored during down time. Anyone else see the I-Phone as a must have?

I would love to have an I-Phone....unfortunately I am locked into Sprint for a couple of years and can't jump ship...

Maybe in the future. But not at the moment.
I have scripts to specific podcast, that I DL every weekend. And I catch most of the "current" news via NPR, AFR, and the BBC.
I don't do the web while on the road any more. Too much trouble, and too time consuming, -
Do you have a thread for your podcasts you listen to? I haven't found anything good yet, but haven't looked hard yet. -
Levin is free, and Coast is $54 a year.
I'm actually looking for other freebies myself -
I love my iphone. When I need to use my laptop, I pull the sim card out of it and plug it into an unlocked aircard and I have internet on my laptop and don't have to pay for another account. I know people who have jailbroke their iphones and can use them as wifi hotspots using the 3g service too, that way you don't have to pull the sim card out. I actually wanted to make an app for the iphone for this forum but my mac at home is not capable of running the software to built iphone apps. WHen I get back from Iraq I plan on upgrading to a new macbook and I'll look more into that then.

I use my iPhone more than my laptop now, and I use my iPhone as a wireless modem for my laptop. I'm trying to adapt QuickOffice app so that I can enter fueling and logbook data from the driver's seat. (I don't like awkward laptop stands at the driver's seat, preferring to keep my electronics hidden behind the curtin).
I used to have AT&T broadband USB card for my Mac powerbook, but that was really not good service at $60- per month. So, I jailbroke my iPhone and found that as a modem its the $30- unlimited internet connection was equal 3G performance to my broadband. Plus, I can dial and receive phone calls, and even use other apps, while the modem app works in the background to provide internet access to my laptop. So, my communications with the iphone aren't compromised when using it as a modem.
I didn't want to forfeit $160 penalty for dropping the AT&T broadband service, but fortunately I was persuaded by an AT&T salesperson to purchase more service that was equal in value to the penalty. I pluggged the USB sim card into an old "pay-as-you-go" phone that I had, providing yet another line on our Family Plan, for just $12- p/month. So, basically the penalty money was shifted into having a backup phone, that I'll use if the iPhone screws up. But, maybe it's possible that the sim card can be plugged back into the USB modem. I haven't tested this yet.
My jailbroken iPhone has all normal apps for the iPhone plus a number of other useful apps not authorized by Apple. These include a videocam (its a very good .mov producer for YouTube), bluetooth wireless file transfer, d'Tunes (a pirate media downloader), and Winterboard (a cool background app that allows choice for the iphone's general screen artwork, icons, etc.) My phone is capable, but I haven't downloaded the YellowSnow software that makes a jailbroken iphone "unlocked" for sim card swap and use in Europe and other places off the AT&T network.
Cydia has prepared a jailbroken version of the soon to be released 3.0 OS, but aren't releasing it until 3.0 is released to the public. If the hardware changes are too much for me to avoid, I may try to swap by selling my 16gig 2.0 iphone on e-bay, removing my sim card for use in the new phone. I have to study this situation a little more... -
Watch your data usage.
If you start using more than 5gigs a month they will asume you jail broke it and hit you with outragous overages as well as remotely disable your phone. They made it hard to stream video compared to other phones. Because of the rules developers have to follow to get into the app store, almost all the data intensive apps require using Wifi. I bet you don't even have to get to 5 gigs before they shut it down. I'm at 1 gig per month as an average.
Please update this if you get shutdown and how much they bill you. -
mastertech heres a trick for you to get out of a contract first force your phone to roam only next as soon as you night minuets start call a toll free number and watch the minuets add up after a bit you will become some one who is costing them money insted of making them some but make sure you have roaming included in your minuet plan
