I would say that was a good bid. Around here some of the brokers are only paying $1 a loaded mile to haul grain. Some pay 1.30 a running mile.
All those rates are with a fuel surcharge.

For you truckers that don't have hoppers they usually pay by the bushel for grain, by the ton for salt, fertlizer etc.

Technically, the farmer isn't Eclipse's customer. Even if he hauled the same lane (corn to same receiver) directly for the farmer, I doubt Eclipse could collect damages for a back solicit. However, Pharm is hauling for Eclipse exclusively right now (if I understand correctly). They can stop using him at any time for any or no reason.

Unless this farmer can keep him busy year round, he needs to be careful to preserve his good relationship with Eclipse. Heck, Eclipse may not ever know or care that he is hauling directly for the farmer. Every broker is different. I don't know Eclipse or their reputation, so that will be Pharm's call. This type of politics is just another thing that sucks in a long line of things that suck about working with brokers.

On the other hand, Pharm's goal has to be to run for his own customers, and only use brokers from time to time, if ever. This may be his first opportunity to progress toward that goal, and the shipper is only 10 miles from the house. That opportunity doesn't come along every day, so do you pass it up?

It still just really creeps me out that he has a hand in our national food supply. :biggrin_25525:

    LOL!!!!!!

Hey for the first time in my life, what I want really DOES amount to a hill of beans :biggrin_25526:

Ok so now the contest as to what is funnier... 1) that I got to use that line, 2) that I thought it was so clever I had to pull off on the shoulder to type it, or 3) the fact that when I thought of it I laughed so hard I snorted and farted at the same time...

    Decisions decisions lol

    I told ya, you'e a SuperTrucker.

I was only away from home Tues and Wed nights all week. I'm about to figure out what I'm billing, I'm not sure it will be terribly hight but I know the fuel is low, so it was a very efficient week!

I'm pretty sure I caught that weird break at the Hess/Wilco. Put in 135 gallons ($309), went in for my receipt and they couldn't find it. After waiting 15 minutes for them to generate it all they could find was an $87 bill, it had my name and company on it so it was mine. I TOLD them already how much I had put in and they just said the pump must have read it wrong, I didn't get that much. Well I was the one that held the handle up while the fuel reached the top. So 6 runs on that deal cost me $87 in fuel.

I had some luck coming my way, you all must admit.

Yep, you nailed it. All of it. That's pretty much everything going through my mind.

SO FAR everything I've pulled is for livestock! lol

Oh actually one load of corn was for a nacho maker.... don't think I did anything gross that time :biggrin_2553:

Now that you went one complete week without paying for something you damaged ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. I like my chances tonight.

WITHOUT PAYING for something I damaged, yes, MAYBE. However this week was still a doozy.

First, I thought I had twice the width I actually had backing at night, ended up backing down that curb divider with the truck on two different levels. I was fully loaded and could't pull forward. It was on a hill so I was able to let the weight SCRAPE me down the whole thing and off into the road, cracking some of the concrete. I will still probably be hearing about this since they called my broker and he asked me about it. This is what I get for taking pictures of the property the day after. Manager put 2 and 2 together.

Second I bowed my tarp roller handle against a tanker. I don't take full credit for this since there was a guy in my mirror directing me backwards over the grate. Somewhere communication broke down there.

So, go ahead and sleep in full pajamas.
