Ok, people, here's my take on the subject. I personally only communicate with other trucks. I do not communicate with 4 wheelers at all, Why? Because 4 wheelers are NOT professional drivers. If a 4 wheeler flashed me in, I want to be #### sure he is to be trusted.

As far as being flashed (high beams) to get back in, I am looking straight ahead and certainly don't mind a quick flash with my periphrial vision. Actually, to be downright honest with you folks, I can tell without you telling me, when I have cleared you to get back in. I know, I know, it's a courtesy thing.

I always communicate with the 4 wheelers by acknowledging a courtesy tip to them for signaling me over. I think it is kind of rude not too. Sort of like walking by someone and saying hello to them and they just totally ignore you. In this day and age the way 4 wheelers are we ought to thank them for any kind of consideration that they show us. If we all ignore them they will just get tired of trying to look out for us.

I have always shown such courtesies to professional driveers when I am in my car. As a soon to be proffessional driver, I appreciate the 1% of 4 wheelers that exhibit such courtesies.

Sorry people, I just feel that trucks and 4 wheelers should not co-mingle. We don't like 4 wheelers gettin' in our way at a TRUCK STOP, right? And how about when we're trying to manuever around a shipper/consignee to bump the dock and 4 wheelers are parked in the way? I won't mention the 4 wheelers that park in truck stalls at rest areas and the 4 wheelers that drive through the truck by-pass ramps. It's only a few 4 wheelers that even communicate with truckers anyway. To me, it's all or nothing, not just some. Makes sense, right?

    Not even remotely.
Those 4 wheelers in your way on truck ramps and stops aren't the guys giving you courtesy on the highway.
And courtesy is a fading etiquette. But the more it is seen out there, the more it is done. What happens when it disappears? You can find out by driving downtown in most big cities. A definitive difference from the folks out on the open road.

So by your way of thinking, trucks on this road and cars on that road. I'm with the other guys on here about this one. Whether I'm in my cruiser or in my personal vehicle, I will signal a truck that he is clear. Red fox is right, the idiots parked in the truck parking don't give a #### about anyone anyway, they could care less about flashing.

About the flashing, I know what guys are doing when they do this. Most of the guys I work with know as well and as far as I know no one's been written up for it. The highbeam flash is against the law in most state's. Most State's restrict the use in a certain amount of distance (500 ft) to approaching traffic and 300 feet when coming up behind traffic.

That is actually a matter of interpretation.

The actual reading is the use of the highbeams when meeting or overtaking a vehicle.

If you write such a ticket, I would imagine a judge would laugh it out of the court.

How do you know if that 4 wheeler you don't want to associate with is an off duty truck driver? I see no use in us against them out here. We tend to look at it as without us they would have no freight. Without them buying the freight we would have no loads. To be honest with you the only ones that are in my way at truck stops is lazy truckers who don't care where they park. I am not talking late at night, no place for them. I am talking 4 pm and plenty of parking, but they are special and need to park where it makes it hard for the guy who wants to park in a actual parking spot.
True; there are some idiot 4 wheelers rolling, but in this day and age they are out numbered by don't give a flip about anybody, but me truck drivers.
