I hauled a shipping container before, picked it up just outside Pittsburgh and delivered it to a Ohio power plant along with 2 huge machine parts. Took me awhile to figure out how to secure it with only a month experience.

I also been to a port in Gloucester City NJ across from Philly,, so yes TMC does hit East coast ports. We had to buy the temp Twic thing to gain access.

From what i read on tmc training website after you finish training and after 30 days in your own tractor you must have:

    1. A haz-mat endorsement.
    2. A u.s. Passport or passport card.
(what is a passport card and what is the difference?)
    3. The twic

also what are some of the ports charging for their twic permits and will the company pay you back if you must purchase one to gain access.

Glad i sang 18 wheels and a dozen roses back in the 1990's

The enhanced license is only available in three states.

Actually there are 4: Vermont, Washington, Michigan and NY. I reckon more states will start offering them too, as time goes on.

Basically the EDL combines a passport with a drivers license, it's so you can cross like Canada and Mexico, but you wouldn't be able to use it in place of a passport if you were going to, say, Australia for instance.
    From Homeland Securitys site:
"State-issued enhanced drivers licenses (EDLs) provide proof of identity and U.S. citizenship, are issued in a secure process, and include technology that makes travel easier. They provide travelers with a low-cost, convenient alternative for entering the United States from Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean through a land or sea port of entry, in addition to serving as a permit to drive.
The Department has been working with states to enhance their drivers licenses and identification documents to comply with travel rules under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), effective June 1, 2009. The states of Michigan, New York, Vermont and Washington are issuing these enhanced drivers licenses.
Enhanced drivers licenses make it easier for U.S. citizens to cross the border into the United States because they include
    • a vicinity Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip that will signal a secure system to pull up your biographic and biometric data for the CBP officer as you approach the border inspection booth, and
    • a Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) or barcode that the CBP officer can read electronically if RFID isn't available.
The top 39 land ports of entry, which process more than 95 percent of land border crossings, are equipped with RFID technology that helps facilitate travel by individual presenting EDLs or one of the other RFID-enabled documents."

    Hope this helps!

If you don't live in one of the northeast border states, you won't be able to get an EDL. No worries, just get your regular passport.

So they are now requiring hazmat? Hm, first I'd heard of that, and no I don't have it. If I did I'd be tugging a tanker or bottle locally and be home every night to boot. Maybe I should ask my FM when TMC's tank division is coming online ;)

Is TMC getting a tank division or is that just wishful thinking? lol
BTW, JPenn, we're neighbors...think 3 stop lights, which are now bypassed thanks to lengthy construction lol :biggrin_25525:
