Another question guys, do you happen to know of any prescribed non-narcotic meds that will get you disqualified from working for Prime.

 

my hubby would put u in the seat from day 1 on. 100 hours behind the wheel minimum to come back and test

 

Thanks redneck31. Does your hubby ever worry bout drivers who have zero experience messing up. Going to orientation on the 15 of this month. May get him as an instructor.

 

I think you dont get to pick your instructor. they assign you one.

 

Yeah shifty. I know. Jusy saying I might end up with him as an instructor.

 

He's an instructor so he takes out the guys with zero experience. No, he doesn't worry about it. He is always sitting in the passenger seat. He is there to teach you how to drive, shift, back, you name it. The instructors are there to teach you how to drive not sit back in the bunk watching tv and napping. You get work out on the pad and stuff before you even get with an instructor. If johnny is out there working the pad listen to him, he knows his stuff. You will also see him over at the Campus Inn, he spends a lot of time over there too.

I am just the wife but, Prime has been the best company in "my" eyes that my hubby has ever worked for. When he is testing his students his dispatcher lets me come down and stay at the motel and sets me up with meal cards. Memorial weekend I was even able to bring my kids down to stay for 3 days. Everyone there is really nice and helpful. I truely hope that you have a good experience with Prime.

I got my instructor, we sat and talked for an hour or so to get familiar... Since we werent leaving till late the following day... he drove me over to an industrial area, and we practiced shifting while bobtailed.

We went back to the hotel... he gave me a spare key... he had already showed me the space he left for me in the various cabinets and told me I could move in.

I drove from day 1. A couple hours, more the next and so on up to 8. Then he had me drive 11, and had me evaluate myself and my conditon at hours 9, 10 and when I was done at 11. Pointing out how skills diminish the longer you drive etc..

CDL students are not officially hired until they pass their test. I came to Prime in Late March, passed my test the first week of May.

 

I know somewhere i have posted to prime but could someobne answer this guestion....the mpg.....you have to average 6.5 all the time or be fired? I think that is what keeping me for saying yes I know people ask on here should I go or not? but I am on my way out of my job now and wan to make the right move and prime godd or not? could anyone help me and answer my guestuions and tell me more??.....

 

Yep, as a company driver you are expected to maintain 6.5mpg or above... you are given 3 weeks to bring that number up...

They have detailed "sensor tracks" on the truck... most of the time they can tell if its driver or mechanical issue.

With the sensor tracks over any given period of time they can analyze your speed, rpms, gears. They can look at time spent in what gear and at what rpms, cruise control usage etc...

After 3 weeks, Ive been told your given the option to go back to training and learn how to drive efficently or you get let go.

A little more lee way is given during the winter months because of fuel blends...

Getting good fuel milage is more than just holding a steering wheel and setting cruise control. Cruise control is a great help, but it can also work against you if you dont know what you are doing.

I run at 55-58mph... Im running anywhere from 7.25-7.5mpg.

 

If I live in Texas do you think that they would have me do some runs into Texas since it is my home state?
