SO .. Where is the money - most OO going UNDER

    It has been my observation that the high percentage of failure for oos was no fault of the industry, especially for first time oos

    For some reason most otr guys look down at dump type of trucking.
    The whole trucking deal no matter what type of trucking you do amounts to what is left in your pocket at the end of the day, week, month and year.
    If a guy can stand going round and round all day, at the end of the day it is very likely you will be sitting in your own easy chair and the part of the check you get to actually keep is larger, than what a guy can make burning fuel on the big road. I am not too proud to go either way and or mix it up, myself. I do this for money, not to be looking cool. lol
    I get tired easier running in a circle though, for some reason, the tigter the circle the worst it is.lol
    I always liked asphalt jobs that paid by the hour the best, lot of time getting paid while just sitting, instead of burning fuel and less maintenence on the truck, because you are always on the pavement.

    I've never seen it so bad as it is out here right now in what should be the hottest season for open decking. The local steel mill is barely putting anything on the spot market. All the local guys have everything under contract. My favorite flatbed market in the country Cleveland,OH seems to barely have table scraps right now. I've been at home for 3 months now, but fortunately I can sit for another 12-18 months before running out of money. If things don't pick up soon I'm probably going to go back to bull hauling for a bit.

    It's not about what you can make, but about what you can keep. Guys can knock down 250k a year in this game and go broke.

    Speak for yourself..... I’m not working and still hanging in there.....

    Owned my own since 1996..... took a year off about 10 years ago . And now I’ve been off since Christmas.

    Cause a lot of the greatest is smoke and mirrors. That said its up a down all the time. But overall I'm doing just fine.

    Didn't read it all but;

    Window screens:
    it was 92 F last week in H'burg PA. I slept fine that night with the engine off, window screens in place and the 12V Burton fan in front of a screen. That saved ~8 or 9 gallons of fuel. They paid for themselves after two nights. $750/month. Actually I think I sleep better with the AC off because I dream about the money I saved. I just love the idea of paying fuel tax to idle my truck 56 hours a week in a parking lot....not. Same applies to a bunk heater in the winter.

    Tolls:
    If your fuel is $.50/mile (YMMV) and a toll rd saves 25 miles you're better off taking the toll rd if the toll costs $12.50 or less. ($13.75 or less if the toll rd is in NY because NY doesn't charge the $.05/mile NYHUT on toll rd miles).

    You have to figure in driving time when avoiding toll roads too.... some days you got the time , some times not......

    Yep....driving time......wear on the truck from extra miles....wear on the truck from stopping and starting....more fuel used from stopping and starting....more scale houses.....
