PARKING with a sensible layout not just to maximize space, and either no rv parking or separate spaces there's nothing worse than rolling into a truck stop after midnight only to find the last 3 spots taken op by a camper with 2 slide outs, pavement is great but lets face it even with 100 washroom stalls some still find it easier to go behind the truck.

A Truckstop with NO Gasoline Pumps!! Hows that for far fetched?!?!
-
Well, after reading some of the stories on this site I would recommend that you install urinals at the fuel islands.
Crotts Trucking Thanks this. -
I gotta agree, no gas pumps . No services for 4wheelers.
No cheap junk made in China, sold at 2,3,400 % mark up.
A staff that knows how to say Thank You, Have a Safe trip, automatcally bags the stuff you just bought. Way to many ask if you want a bag, or dont offer at all.
A real honest go goodness sit down resturant, where they cook it to order, freshly prepared. Lose the can in the pan menu and lose the buffet. A friendly paid staff paid more than $3.00hr +tips.
A gym, barber shop , audio shop( that can offer onsite factory warrenty service on anything electronic, and stay open to like 10pm at nite. Most drivers don't keep the same hours of all the cb shops i see out here.
Maybe a lounge type area, Done like a sports bar, with out the alcohal. Pool tables, juke box, tv's etc:.
card every one who enters, to ensure they hold a cdl, or are with some one who does.
A shuttle to the nearest Walmart and or mall, movie theater, Dr's or Urgent care. It can run on a schedule every 30-60 min, or reservations.
A grassy park like area, where pets are not allowed, so one can walk barefoot on the grass, or lay down to take a short nap with out fear or walking into surprise. Placed away from the parking lot, so it's quiet and peacefull.
On the fuel island, keep soapy water in the buckets all the time. Just don;t fill it once a day.
Have attendents kick off those who insist that they park at the pump and are only ' running' in for a second. Go park before they go in.
For those tk stops in the snowy states. Have a full time plow 24 a day, when it snows, plowing out the fuel isalnds. Sand or salt spread out, would be nice.
Last winter i watch three trucks at Loves in Wamsutter, Wy, get stuck on the fuel island, because Loves only plowed the fuel lanes once in a 24 hr period. Yet it snowed for most part of that same period. -
LOL!! They would probably pass right by them, throw there trash in it, then pee on the tire!!

Have porta-potties, or something throughout the parking area. Monitor the lot and the fuel island with cameras to catch offenders that urinate at the fuel island and in the paved lots.
Nothing is worse than stopping at a truck stop on a hot, humid day, and having to smell overpowering urine all the way to the building. This really makes for a healthy appetite.
I have seen too many drivers pee at the fuel island while fueling their truck, or empty there pee bottles on the pavement under the truck while fueling.
Impose a fine, have the driver kicked out, or even arrested for any of the above offenses.
Dang people, have a little bit couth. If you owned these places would you like cleaning up after yourselves, yet you wonder why non-trucking business do not want you near them, and most truck stops only want you to fuel, get a sub, and get the #### out.
Years ago I wanted to open a truckstop. I wouldn't do it for anything now, with all the low life slobs that pass themselves off as truck drivers these days. I'm talking old time drivers as well as newbies, as some of each are equally guilty of being a filthy slob that doesn't give a crap about anyone elses property.
People want to b#t#h about how drivers are treated, well many are treated better than they deserve, which makes it hard on the decent drivers.onelikeseabass, panhandlepat, zincman and 3 others Thank this. -
I think if you want to solve this problem you have to have cameras, post signs, and have automatic fines linked to their license plate so it goes on their driving record. And, you must couple this with a membership program. You must have a CDL to enter and pay an annual fee to enter. You would have to cater to an uperclass truckers that most likely will be O/O that have the money and are willing to pay for good service and a relaxing truck stop that meets their every need. Also, all of the membership fees, costs, and money spent are tax deductible for them. I wouldn't market to company drivers since they generally are underpaid and most likely would not be willing to pay for extra stuff or on a tight budget.
