While I can see the potential, at larger companies, in not having capital tied up in full fuel tanks, on an individual basis we are talking about $600 of fuel in a $150k Truck... thinking if I were to ever run O/O, if ever, I’d just roll that perceived first tank of fuel into the cost of the Truck and then I would just be replenishing the fuel as I used it... that would actually tie fuel consumption to the loads... albeit I would be adding weight to the Truck but that would only be when I actually “topped off”.

But, like I said, at a larger company with same 500 Trucks,
but if your company contracts fuel, doesn’t the pump price become irrelevant?

And I wasn’t aware that IFTA rates varied State to State... they certainly could, I’m ignorant of those details but strange that they would...

I could see avoiding States with larger Sales Tac or Road Taxes... like Florida or California...

The fuel tax by state is determined by the miles traveled in the state. Any fuel purchased in that state offsets some of the tax because of the fuel tax included in the fuel price.

Right, so that would not be a variable in where one fuels... at least for cost... unless you are trying to make every State actual mileage tie out to the fuel purchased in that State... but wow... tying out fuel purchases to both Load and State... oh my... but ya, I guess someone behind a computer doesn’t have better things to do... lol

    Job security... lol

So I got to Little Rock and realized I was going to run short of fuel. I guess they based it on the weight of my load on my dispatch ticket (3200 lbs) but the actual weight was 43 k so thats where the fuel solution ran off the rails. Oh well new fuel solution 55gals at the Morrilton Arkansas Loves and 180 more at Petro OKC (only took 152 to fill) and finally 70 more in Holbrook AZ at the TA tomorrow. Whatever. I will just keep my mouth shut and do what they want. Not a deal breaker and loading up on shower credits. Don't like being a smelly man-child!

Do you have to watch the pump to stop it at X gallons, or is that automated too?

I think I would miss my Platinum Status at Loves... lol

Well after a quick 2.5 days at the house for my birthday, it’s back to the grind for 24 days, then taking 10 days off for my 25th wedding anniversary cruise.

Deadheaded down to Charleston to live load a load going to Kansas City, Kansas.
