I had to have my ecm and some harnesses replaced. That with all the labor was over $8,000. Injectors and bearings? Nearly $6,000. An engine rebuild could happen, but another $15,000 on top of that? Not likely.

Hmm and how much was labor ? 75 an hour or maybe 80. I've seen rebuild kits for 2k now if you want a kit from cat that's gonna be 4 or 5 from what I've seen but that could have changed but still no where near 15k. Also being that a dpf replacement can be 15k in PARTS alone. My point is you can't make money sitting in a shop and from my experience newer trucks are in the shop more. I've had a KW dealer tell me that most of what they work on is emissions related. Now if you replace your truck every 2 years then yes you won't have these issues but can you afford to buy a new truck every 2 years ? Injectors areally about 350 a piece for a 3406e or if you want high peromance then around 600 to 650. A new turbo is about 2500 to 4000 don't believe me look it up. Also I Dont suggest buying direct from cat bein that dealer parts are expensive like outrageous.

I don't suggest buying a old swift truck but hey who would say no to a 2001 379 C15 and a 13 speed for around 35k before taxes so around 37k after depending where you live. Sorry for the Grammer I'm using a phone and it's a pain to use good Grammer on it.

It's very easy to say no to buying any used truck that has a 2000 or newer engine. That 2001 Pete 379 is the same as any Swift or Schneider truck out here useless imo and not worth any price. $15,000 won't even pay for an inframe on most engines. What shops are only charging $75-$80 an hour? Good mechanics are in high demand and there's not enough of them. Seems to be $150 an hour is on the low side anymore. Shops charging less than that are padding hours and/or huge markups on parts so they can still make a profit.

Never seen a 15k kit guy now a shop might charge 15k. I was just through 75 or 80 an hour out there as saying if your paying even that your loosing Lots of cash. The old school drivers drove AND fixed there trucks. Also how is a 2001 use less? no emission and Sure you have elog but I mean your not getting away from that, but I'm not gonna comment more on this being I don't Wana stir up a wasp nest again because somebody is overpaying for there truck or to repair there truck. Also the older looking t600 there seems to be what your running I'm guessing soo I dont know where your going with this.

Hahahaha if you believe the used truck model is the high profit route, i have seaside property in Arizona to sell you ;-)

You've never heard of a 15k bill? I hope you're kidding. Are you a driver or an owner? I'm believing you're a driver.

That's Trucking, beating on equipment is a sure way to break things but babying isn't the cure against big repairs, SHTF sometimes regardless of what you think and the bills can stack VERY rapidly.

Ask my former lease OP that went on his own and tried that used truck millionaire route...he ended with 50k of repairs within a year. Done.. An awful thing to watch when you know how it ends.
(And that was with him using bubba repair to save money vs dealership... That's a whole other story in itself)

Well for most drivers myself included doing an inframe is outside of our capabilities. I do most of my own work but sometimes do need shops and yeah I agree paying $75 and $80 an hour gets expensive. I had the truck in my avatar for 10 years it served me well but it was an 03 and had an EOBR so I got rid of it and upgraded to a 99. It was a shame too that truck could have served me well another 10 years or more.

READ WHAT I SAID " I suggest repairing the truck your self" THAT'S THE WAY TO SAVE !!!! Don't believe me look at part prices and look at what you pay. I can get abother engine for 20k... either way I don't Wana argue over this because no matter what I say I'm wrong. Yes I run for a company BUT I've been around company owners alot and EVERY and I repeat EVERY last one of them doesn't have a new truck. 1 company has about 5 or 6 trucks(owner doesn't want to grow anymore he's getting tired and has been thinking of retirement) or the company where at now 30 trucks not 1 is brand new I'll admit this company pays good and has crap equipment because they have a hard to finding time to fix things but 300 a day after taxes. These now before I get the oh why did you leave the other company with nice trucks speech I'll explain. All of these SUCCESFUL company's were our weekend jobs and the nice one had the driver in our area quit because he was tired of 12 days on 2 days off. (we haul milk) Oh and I almost forgot the old company my dad worked at years ago. The owner just sold the businiss but before he had a 300+ truck company and he started with used and continued to buy used (he bought new also being that this was the 90s and the company was making money had over fist) The owner has since retired and is a multi millionaire. Ya Wana one of the biggest keys of success DON'T TAKE 2 DPM LOADS. Take good paying loads unless it's just a get home load. Here's how I work the numbers
The national average for flatbed is 2.23 I believe so let's use that number 2.23X100,000 let's make this simple. 223,000 X .43 I figure 30 percent for taxes and 27 percent for driver (yourself) that comes to 95,890 now let's say your a good driver and you can get 6.5 average ifta wait let's take this to another level 5.5 ifta and let's figure 3.20 a gallon average even though the nation average is 3.08 . 95,890 - 58,181 that leaves you with 37,709 then let's say we changes injectors on a 3406e and also the transmission needed repair but it was a 10 speed and you changed to a 13 speed and just for sh1ts and giggles you rebuilt it. So let's figure 350 an injector so 350 X 6 = 2100 and 2500 for the trans and you bought direct from cat and got a platinum repair kit. 6000 and we subtract all that. 27,109. And don't forget insurname 15k so it comes to 12,109. So do yall wanna replace more parts or put chrome on it or what AND BEFORE I HEAR "WeLl YoU DiDiNT FiGuRe LaBoR" your right I didn't again I say fix it your self if your gonna get into being an owner op fix It yourself, learn how. Because if you buy a truck and have no payment it doesn't matter if you got sick a week and you found coolant In the oil and took another week to fix that. And that's all I have to say about that.... good bye hey and if you Wana add in labor on the inframe go ahead.
