I'm considering the trucking industry as a career and I understand that the requirements have gotten a bit more strict. I've been accepted to C-1 truck driver training school in Ft. Worth and was told I had a job with Choctaw Express. I had a DUI back in 2000 and a misdemeanor back in 1990. I was told these are non-issues. I just want to be sure they won't come back to haunt me before I actually get hired. Any experience on this sort of thing will be much appreciated.
Odds of actually getting hired

Did the school say you had a job with Choctaw Express? If they did, it's probably a pre-hire. I would get something on paper from whomever told you this. Good luck on your training and be safe out there.

actually they called it a job offer.
-
You should also contact the co. directly and explain to them your situation in great detail and be very honest with them.

Most trucking companies wont hold a DUI against you, as long as it is at least 5 yrs old
-
Thanks. That's what I've been told and mine was 9 years ago. However, I saw another post on here that said DUI's probably won't get hired. I'm in a position where I need to know beforehand. Know what I mean?
-
By the way, what exactly do you mean by pre-hire?
-
the trucking school (or ANY business for that matter) will tell you anything to get your $$$. like it's already been stated on here a millions times, veteran drivers can't find work right now. and the ones who ARE still driving aren't getting any miles. some companies won't hire you if you've EVER had a DUI. buyer beware....
kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Pre hire means you have been approved by the company's safety department (they checked your background, DAC, and MVR)
You still have to pass orientation before they put you in a truck. -
was it Driver Solutions they do alot of work with C1. If it was them you will know for sure in your 2nd week if you are going to Choctaw Express ( Pam transport). If you want to find out call Pam human resources Or there saftey department. My son went thru Driver solutions for C1 also and was also prehired for Pam and found out the 2nd week in school that they would not take him as he had a misdemeanor that was 3 yrs old. Luckly they were able to get him into another company they work with or he would have been stuck paying for the school out of his own pocket. At C1 you only have a few days to drop the school and not owe them for it so might try to go on safe side and call pam and make sure your good to go for Choctaw Express
