Ok, that is perplexing, so the injectors and heads are staying full of fuel over night or it wouldn't start the first time. I'm guess some place your getting air, or draining back to tank over night on the fuel delivery side. Age of fuel lines, they will suck air before you ever see fuel leak out. What does it have for fuel filters, Davco with the clear sight glass, or standard spin on?

 

One standard spin on. Its like its draining back from the cooling plate to the tank over night. After starting the first time itll start all day no problem.

Did you put a new o-ring on filter head? Or take the old one off? Sorry not being a Ahole. But I have seen it get left of or doubled up and cause this. Or with filter off look at aluminum housing. I have seen them crack and suck air.

 

Just left the parts house with a new fuel filter. Going to stick one on when I get home and check for any double seals or whatever else may cause a leak. I dont take it as you being one. I'm learning and very well could miss something.

 

Ok another thing, since you left the parts house. There are multiple different filter that fit that housing. Some have a anti drainback stand pipe in filter, some do not. Some trucks need this, some do not. What filter number do you have and brand. Plus when you remove old filter, take note on how full it is. Or any noise of gurgling and drain back when you spin it off.

 

Few other ideas, would be to temporarily by pass cooler plate. I have seen the suck air, and fill up with junk. Second would be remove suction line from filter housing and drop it into clean supply of diesel, 5gal can, bucket. Then see if the problem persists.

 

James is giving you the exact information that’s in my mind. All good advice as far as I’m concerned.

If you have a mechanical prime pump they are known for leaking too, after many years. Even when they are closed.
