Companies that do that are so stupid...I'm talking about waiting until a person gets there for orientation to do the background, DAC, and MVR checks.

A lot of companies do it that way though...its completely senseless.

:biggrin_25511:Caution, a pre-hire only means that the trucking company has lightly scanned over your app and in reality, it has been put in the "possible" pile of apps.

Nothing is really checked until you are at orientation. You are not hired until you complete orientation. Why would they check references/dmv/dac/criminal record before you even set foot on school grounds? The school says anything, hey, they want your money, right?

The dui might be a problem, since it's recent. 2000 is recent, less than 10 yrs. It all boils down to the actual reference check, not vague scenarios presented to the recruiter.

I know of one company that does all the checks BEFORE they accept you for orientation...Maverick.

Just don't fail their (Maverick) beyond standard physical or psych evaluation, which you aren't warned about before hand. I saw alot of good guys who had quit jobs to come to Maverick's orientation sent home jobless.

I didn't fail and I was warned...actually I didn't find it that hard to do. All 17 people in my class passed the agility test (one was a female). One guy had high blood pressure but was accepted after he was sent back home to get a note from his doctor.

Psych evaluation??? I must have passed that one in my sleep because I don't remember anything about it :biggrin_2554:

The DUI should not be a problem, I have one and I am a Gas Hauler, I only know of 1 Gas Hauling Company here in town that will not take you because of it.

I'd say be totally honest with whomever you apply.
Be prepared to go through everything and be told you're not able to be hired because freight is slow or driver's aren't quitting.
Be prepared to have to wait for a truck...even months for some companies.

From all I read, it's not an exact percentage: too many factors weigh in, and a prehire means virtually nothing except that you look okay in the preliminary scan. Don't have any hidden skeletons, or you may be wasting your time and money that could be earning a living elsewhere.

Be aware that the trucking industry isn't what it once was.The companies do not care about the drivers. The market is now flooded with drivers and freight is scarce.Get your license and find a local job you will be better off.Do not beleive anything these over the road companies tell you. They all lie.

They must have started warning recently, 3 or 4 from our group were sent home after quitting other jobs. I remember 1 was for a knee problem ( my roommate) can't remember the rest. The psych evaluation was the test you took regarding your personality (i.e. are you red, green,or yellow) they paint it out with the picture that it help's you to understand yourself better, but in reality it tells the dispatcher how to handle you when you get upset.
