UPS P&D to Linehaul

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread but... hiring on in New England right now, it starts at 24$/hr and is frozen for 3 years. they call it a market rate adjustment. simply put, any trucking job within 100 miles of boston HAS to pay at least 20-25 dollars an hour to start, because everybody else is doing that.

rent for a single bedroom apartment within 100 miles of boston is often at least 900$/mo. not incl. utilities which adds another 150$/month.

Employers know this.

 

You aren't getting into ups for the starting pay, you should be looking at top rate. I started on the sort isle for $9.50/hr 3 hours a day.

 

I would't have joined UPS if the starting pay was only $17/hr. Sorry, but that's way too low.

Top rate & OT after 40 is nice though. Believe me, it factored into my decision.

 

We had to get language in the contract to try to minimize ot. 99% of hubs will try to run you out of hours. It's cheaper for them to pay ot than run another truck so they just pile it on.

 

In almost 20 years with UPS I never worked a 40 hour week or a four day week without bumping a new guy for a day off. If they ran four day weeks across the board I wouldn't have retired, you ain't getting four day weeks unless you have 30+ years in at most hubs.

 

That's lie I worked under 40 hours a week for two years on the sort isle before going up to package car lol

 

Even a paid vacation week is 45 hours. That how non-existent 49 hour weeks are in that company lol

 

You grab that gig and thank your maker..
I was hired at brown along w another guy in 91/92 after we finished our full time temporary gigs.
Union rules then allowed them to take 2 twice a year.
Worked for a year and left for a different union gig.
Just wasn't cut out to do the freight hauling thing.
Was my 2nd of 3 tries at that type (freight) of driving, although the pay and benefits were good, the whole 5 managers for every driver was a bit much....
Still to this day I wonder where I'd be w 27 yrs in.
I haven't suffered as I make more than a UPS feeder driver but probably work a bit harder to earn it.
A funny side note, when I got on here over 10 yrs ago there was this guy who looked familiar..
We got to talking and I'll be dipped if it wasn't the other dude who got on w me in 1992.
