Say whatever you like. California loves to milk every dime they can out of commercial carriers, and I can guarantee there will be enforcement in place when the law comes fully into force. If anybody thinks that it is worth the risk, more power to them. I'm in business to make money, not lose it for taking a gamble.

Maybe I don't run some of the more out of the way roads into and out of the state, but every ag checkpoint I've seen in my 42 years living here is open 24/7/365.

So what exactly is the purpose of the agriculture check point in states like CA and FL? What are they looking for?

In theory, forbidden seeds, plants, animals...also they want to know where you take a load of chicken eggs from IA. In CA, they were also interested in metals.
To me, they all look like a waste of taxpayers money. I may be proven wrong, though. I am sure there are heroic stories of them saving their states ecosystems.

That’s what I hate about regulations in general, and especially new ones. If you comply and are 100% legal you end up being at an operational disadvantage.

If a new rule is made then fine, just freakin enforce it then!

The fines right now can start at $1000 per vehicle per day and can go up to $250k per vehicle per day if they can show willful disregard for the regulations. The risk must be worth it to a lot of people to keep running out there.

And a lot of the Ag checks on the small two lane roads over the mountains are 24/7. Just like when you’re heavy and don’t want to cross Truckee, pick a road over the mountains and go in the dark.

The gnashing of teeth and wails of anguish rose from NYC first. Cab Medallions cost 250,000 to have permission to go cabbing.

    POOF. No value.

They might as well chuck the coins under their crying drinks...

An audit is not only possible, it's very likely. As time goes on and the LEOs and DOT catch up with the latest technology an audit will become common.
At our last BIT inspection the CHP checked our ELDs against our driver's time sheets. We pay by the hour so it was an easy cross-reference for him to do.
Hey, we sit around and talk to each other and try to think of ways to cheat the clock, right? What do you think DOT guys talk about when they're sitting around? They talk about ways to catch us.

They're looking for non-commercially grown fruits and vegetables and the bugs they might be carrying with them. Just a few of the wrong kind of bug can wipe out hundreds of millions of dollars in crops.
