I would think shopping them would be your most powerful negotiation tool. Enough drivers call their bluff they might try some honesty. Don't think for a second they don't know where your break even is. Truck payment or not they know your threshold of pain. Push your limit by 20 or 30 cents and make those cheats work for you.

It sounds like you did the right thing! :biggrin_25525:

I'd get ANGRY when I see that. Its a good thing I never have to deal with these people face to face. I'm starting to wonder just how much self control I would exercise. There is business frugality, and then there is "you sound dumb enough to not find out we are actually in this for $2/mile...":biggrin_25510:

90 cents doesn't cover overhead. $1.50 is kickin' ##### in this economy. Unless...you don't think so? I'd love to get a pm from someone that knows how to pull $1.50/mile on a regular basis.

Well, it is technically honest to have a driver pay you $1/mile so he can take your load for you. Honest still to ask him to shine your shoes for the privilege. What is DIS honest is these F@#ERS that say they only have $1.05 in the load...then two hours later offer it for $1.20. Well...that fake call you made to the "customer" where you called them to ask if they could increase their rates...yea guess they called you back two hours later and said "sure! I haven't fukd my business up for some time...go ahead and bill me more than market rate, so that the driver can scrape by and your shareholders can catch the crumbs you spit up to them."

Well they never call the CUTOMER. They call a superior. If they called the customer and asked if they could increase the rate, they would know the load could be taken $2/mile. They do a google search and call up Swift. No such thing as CHR calling the customer.

The thing is, if your dumb enough to believe it, they technically can't be tried for fraud because its just one employee who said it and its not like they could really be sued for making a mistake. Since it is part of CHR's business model to lie to both customer and carrier, it needs to be done really wink and nod like.

Legal or not, I think some of these liers deserve an ### whoppin'. Unless your a saint, I'm pretty sure you could justify using force to steal $45 out of the wallet of someone who defrauded you out of $400 on a two day load.

    Grrrr...one of these days!

If you are using the load boards keep a little black book of shippers.

When the non compete agreement is up, go around the broker.
You'll be amazed at the $2+ loads you find.

I personally do not have any problem going around a dishonest broker.
Like the time I found out from other O/Os at that shipper that the broker
I used for a load was taking more than what he was paying me.

Two phrases you can start using on brokers are these. One is mine, and one
    comes from my uncle.

Better than that . I know O/O's that exchange info on shippers when they get burned by a broker . You give another O/O info on a good shipper . He gives you info on another . They don't do this with shippers booked through the few good brokers that are out there but several greedy brokers have found certain shippers no longer use them .

Let's get the party started! I'm going to make a thread specifically for that. CHR is at the top of my list. Landstar is even worse, but I walked away from them after two loads.
