so it seems like every one is very much against these l/p deals and i be the first one to admit that i have heard so horriable storys of the way this driver got screwed over. but i have head some good things about l/p..... So then one can't help to wornder are these drivers failing because things outa of there controll no freight ect........or these drivers failing b/c there lazy n dont wanna run hard n wanna spend 5 or 6 days at home n then wonder why they didnt get a check... now my main ? is ... so a young driver like my self wants his own rig (hopefully own my own lil outfit one day) BUT remind you that i am only 23 years old i have NO credit never even financed for anything..... and dont have the kinda cash for a huge down payments...... so wouldn't the l/p be about my only choice or did i miss something

Knighthunter just do as most of them do here change your experience to 10 to 25 years and scream and yell about lease programs because your a big time owner operator and the losers who sign leases are what's wrong with this industry. Shoot everyone should come out here and purchase a new truck right out of the gate or your not a real big time trucker. They all forget how they got started and 99% of them didn't come out and buy a truck to get started if they did they probably failed miserably.

Seriously keep posting what your doing and ignore the ones who have noting better to do then try and discourage anyone with less then their 10-25 year experience from getting into trucking.

They conveniently leave out that so many companies will not even look at a newbie but unfortunately the lease companies will. My advice to anyone is be real careful signing if it's not a walk away lease.

Well I will give you my story..As well as my reasoning.
I am a lease operator. I will NEVER purchase the truck. I knew that going in. I wanted to buy my own truck also. After a lot of thinking and 4 yrs. as a company driver I thought I would take the next step but I wanted to understand the "business" side before I bought a truck..So, I signed a short term lease which has been completed. When the lease was over is about the same time the economy tanked. So I signed another short lease. I will not finish that lease but I had intended too.

I can NOT speak firsthand of a l/p. But I know I have heard to many nightmare stories to even think about it.

If I come back out to drive I will either go company or buy outright. When I was company before I lived cheap and saved all I could. The same when I was leasing. When I decide to buy I will be able to put a hefty downpayment.

I am very cautious. Yes, it will take me longer then I want but I would rather go slow on this journey....Good Luck

Well you have several choices and most are not real good ones, you should start as a company driver first and learn trucking only spend your time talking to drivers who want to talk positive about their company and the lifestyle of being a trucker. Learn as much as you can and after a couple years either make the plunge into leasing or buying a truck. If you do purchase a truck make sure you have somewhere to pull freight from, many companies won't allow you to pull their freight without 2-5 years over the road experience. Keep in mind my experience with these forums seem that most people would like to see you fail instead of succeed. So ignore the people who do nothing but spout about how great they are and everyone else is wrong. These people are the reason most truck drivers don't bother turning on their radio because someones always threating you or making fun of the way you drive back or what you drive, because their Super Truckers. God I had to listen to this daily at Prime I know Example: "PRIME here comes a PRIME, God why would you lease at PRIME, I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who didn't make money there back in 1995 so the company has to be lousy" Ok, that turned out to be true LOL Actually I made money at Prime just not enough for me, maybe for 50% of the people out here but not me and it was a good place for my son to get his schooling and experience and myself to get back in the game after a 25 year hiatus.

    Sorry long winded tonight.

    just my two cents..............

I think that i talked to that guy about a lease w/swift .he knows everything about everything.anyway i can get the truck im in now at a very good price .i am going to go over the paperwork next week to see what i need to do and what swift needs to do.i have talked to alot of l/o here (not on the cb)and they are making money and getting miles.
So the guy that knows a guy that talked to a guy can just keep doing what he is doing .

they hire in places where they need drivers. FL is one of their major freight lanes and I see a lot of their trucks going to Arcadia, Brooksville, Winter haven and a few going to Fort Pierce.
