I feel the same! Got to see the country out west. I kind of feel sorry for the new guys who do a dock to driver program with LTL’s that get you home everyday in the midwest because they will most likely never know how fun it is pulling gears climbing those steep grades. Or how bad it sucks chaining up in the winter lol.

They try to get guys to pick their own teams and the requirements are just to get a pool of people on the q list just in case. Most of those people don't get jobs or are just used for overflow during peak. It's a okay you met our bottom barrel requirements now don't call us we'll call you. You are right tho, that would be ####ing terrifying to be asleep in the bunk and roll (or even awake and driving for that matter).

My best friend from the industry was in the bunk when his teammate rolled the truck in Wyoming.

And that was his last team trip.

You really have to trust your team driver. We had a driver killed in the bunk from Louisville SDF during a jackknife many years ago. We also had one thrown thru the windshield into the very wet median in nothing but his underpants while he was in the bunk during a rollover. He is not a small guy so a rather large mud covered nearly naked Feeder driver in the median must have been quite the sight. I guess he didn’t have the net hooked up. Miraculously he had only minor injuries. I wouldn’t believe his story had I not heard it from management and numerous other drivers. He also wouldn’t team again and I probably wouldn’t either if I had been a human projectile into the median. I really liked teaming after I got use to sleeping behind my co-driver because it was the easiest best paying jobs at UPS without 30 years of seniority. My co-driver took me thru the truck wash in Lenexa one time while I was sleeping and after a few expletives he never did that again. I still talk to him nearly every week.

That's just to get names on the q list for peak. I've seen them do it before and then it just "doesn't work out".

Yeah, but this is something totally different. They're building parking lots. They need team drivers YESTERDAY. For full-time permanent, not just seasonal.

But they can't hire them in at $30 an hour, I wouldn't think, without paying everyone at least that.

Sounds like I'm getting a raise! (Not really, I'm just confused) lol

I can guarantee you that they didn't do inside checks first with everyone. I have seen outside dudes come in and be going six months thinking they had a job to have a preloader file a grievance and take their job. Happened with a dude on the sort isle that had a CDL, he didn't get the offer so he grieved it, won, and the dude he bumped lost a job because there was nowhere to move back from since he was a street hire. They got real good at the 1 in 10 list after that lol. If you are still making under $30 I would screen cap that and send it to your business agent and tell him you want $30 now too. I would raise hell over that. Hell if you want the help I still have grievance forms LOL.

Not sure about your location, but here they have been hiring peak drivers at that rate for several years. That was the only way they could get warm bodies. Then when peak is over they go to regular progression rate if they hire them full time. I bet it is a mix up by the recruiter.
