i saw something somewhere that said that DPF systems might be done away with. they are saying the urea injection ends up emitting dangerous ammonia gasses, which makes perfect sense. perhaps CARB will eat their words. burning off urea most likely comes with it own set of problems, a problem being created by the very way the system works.

Were there many problems with the old dpf system that didn't have def? I can't really remember except I melted a receivers door frame because of the exhaust

cant we just get rid of this crap and have properly tuned trucks running clean just because they are properly tuned?

People can get away from DPF and DEF and all the stuff. You just need a Tesla electric truck. Never have emissions troubles again.

The urea neutralize the NOx. I see some truck have white film on stacks from to much urea. I was parked next to truck that must have the Paccar engine doing a Regen I never smell anything so bad. Detroit engines don't smell when regen

i can tell from experience paccar engines arent the best LOL.

i have myself a little kubota sub compact diesel with a little D902 3 cylinder, anything under 26 hp i believe is exempt from tier 4 emissions. my BX2350 is a 2007 which predates all of this nonsense , but the newest sub compacts still dont have regen. the tractor puffs out a small amount of soot (unburned fuel) when first started but once its started it doesn't smoke at all, does not matter how hard you are running it. its an extremely simple IDI diesel engine.... no DPF system. once you get past a certain hp rating even off road diesels have to have those systems, absurd because that's an offroad machine. its a "cute" little diesel looks a miniature truck engine. they say they are just as durable as well.

I have a friend ( i know hard to believe) anyway he knows a guy that had a pre def truck and always had a problem with birds nesting and hanging out in his garage. After he got a def trk he said the birds left and never came back. Obviously cant confirm this. Who knows?
