Mileage vs percentage. I remember back in the early 90's when companies started switching over to mileage. Then the drivers started complaining the dispatchers were playing favorite. Given all the long runs to thier buddies.
Before that it was mostly percentage, and the guys were complaining. Dispatch is playing favorite. Giving the best paying loads to thier buddies.
Bottom line no matter what, mileage or percentage. Guys will complain and want it the other way around.
My thought forget mileage, why drive 3000 miles to make the same you can make in 1800?

    starmac and Coffey Thank this.

Average driver wage is $54,000 a year. I'm looking to pay my drivers salary that way they have a minimum guarantee. For instance, if a driver has less than 5 years experience then I'll start them at $1050 a week which is $54,600 a year, plus benefits. As they gain more experience, or if a driver has more experience then the pay will be higher. This way my drivers have a consistent and steady paycheck that they can count on every week. If they sit, they get paid. If they're broke down, they get paid etc... I don't have the correct number yet but if they run over a certain mileage for the week or two week average then I'll compensate then for the "extra" miles. We're still working through all the numbers and I'll pay myself the same to see it in action first.

Come back and let us know how that works out for you. There is a reason most drivers are not on salary or even hourly.

Whaaaaaat a dependable, steady, paycheck that can be allocated and budgeted, plus benefits? If a driver is married (especially with kids) his wife would never let him quit.

Besides a company being too cheap to pay a driver for his time, what's the reason? Just because it's not typical doesn't mean it can't be done. Just because others have tried and it didn't work out doesn't mean it will end up that way for everyone that tries it.

Lazy drivers might take advantage. Most guaranteed pay comes with requirements like available for work all week.

Well they are company drivers so it will be forced dispatch. I'm sure that will be an issue with some because there are drivers like that out there.

Like I said, good luck, with that. Forced means nothing except they supposedly have to take a load.
drivers or really just people can get pretty creative on ways to not work, it is just easier for drivers than other occupations, because they are not right under the bosses nose.

Is this 1099 pay for Co driver?
Is this an eld exempt truck?
Fuel bill won't matter much if it has no idle time?
