Heck where I grew up at most every kid that wasn't a jock or nerd was driving some kinda truck in their teenage years. Either a log truck or an old L9000 sileage truck. Was just part of life cause being a kid your not as strong or smart as the old folks so they stick ya in the truck or on the tractor pulling the hay wagon. Was glad when the old mack finally broke in half, got to move up to a "real" truck an old Brigadier with a 671 in it HAHA oh with a straight 7 speed with a 3spd aux.

I think it's all in the way you carry yourself. If you get out at a truckstop and you are sheepishly looking around, i'd say you got a big target on you. If you get out and you have an air of confidence(not arrogance) about you, i'd say you would be ok. I've been out of truck driving for about 10 yrs. Before that I drove a 24' straight truck with a sleeper around the mid west and east coast for about 12 yrs. I never had a problem. I was on the south side of Chicago quite often(those of you that know this area) and never once had anything happen.
As for a weapon other than a gun? Tire mallet. Screwdriver. Bandanna looped through a Master lock. Good pepper spray. Taser. Stun gun.
There's quite a few if you think about it. #1 is to use your head and not put yourself in a bad situation.

Ok I should clarify, It is illegal to transport a LOADED firearm. It must be UN-loaded and locked away in a different place from the ammo. You can carry a gun. just not loaded.

I have an 8oz container of Counter Assault Bear Deterrent. It's got a 30ft range and empties in 7 seconds. "Grizzly Tough Pepper Spray" they say. Oh yeah, "Not for use on humans." We'll see.:biggrin_2554:

It is against federal law to carry a firearm in a commercial vehicle. This was passed in the same legislation that gave us the CDL, but as long as u r licensed for a firearm most states allow it to go on. No license equals 2 years probation and becoming a felon in the state of Florida.

I carry two 30mm GAU-8 Avengers... one in each pocket. Sure, it takes some practice to shoot these babies one handed—3900 rounds a minute will put a snap in your shorts! But it makes short work of pesky lumpers and crackheads.:biggrin_25525:
