Winchester...HA! I had a feeling you would say something along these lines!! LOL! I haven't been talked out of the shakers, but have opened up my search a little more. I've talked with a few guys driving Coronados and a fleet running them and they gave me a good report. It would be interesting to see what would happened between the two brands over time...
Also, my fleet will always stay young. The plan is to turn the trucks over and get new ones every four years.

it may just be the w900's just passing information, i'm no KW expert
the button tuft interior is the VIT interior package. the seattle package had more panels then the standard. it had some wraped around the steering counsole, some under the glove box, around the seats, etc. All button tufted

Everything will get a lot of thought, I promise! What should I be thinking about, looking at, and paying attention to when we start spec'ing the drivetrain GENX????

get the drivetrain that wil give you the best power/ economy and repair costs. Every driver will have a different idea of what they like so don't bother.
give them a nicely equiped comfortable truck and you be concerned for yourself with the stuff that's gona cost you money.
your crazy if you think you'r gona send a big W900 with big bunk into an urban environment every day. They take 5 acres to turn around. Sure the owner operator who cares because it's his can get that truck in there without hitting anything but a driver is going to tear it all to hell. Been there done that with the driver in the top of the line large cars.... -
Just an opinion based on what "MY" choice would be based on Safety, Comfort, Happiness, Reliability, Image, and Looks.
It was wrong of me to suggest that "Your look is over". Obviously it isn't, and it shouldn't be.
But, like MediceneMan said, maneuverability should be taken very seriously, given the environment these trucks will be operating in. -
I like KW's, but I would have to go with a Pete 389 (not the best turning radius) or 386 (the same turning radius and a T660). If I had to go with a KW it would be the T660. You can get those set up very nicely on the inside with a large Factory sleeper. Unless you care about bragging rights a 500 horsepower ISX, a 13 speed, those with a 3.30 - 3.50 rearend ratio should treat a driver right. The mechanic in me says get the most power and the driver in me says I can get by with lower power. I have taken a truck as described clear across this country and into canada and I did just fine. Then again I only pull 48' trailer.

Lots of luck getting those fairings on the Coronado to stay on if you are going to run North. If you are going to run North get an Aliarc bumper, Lightforce lights with blue and clear lens, an Arctic package, Trygg chains, and a VHF radio.Notguilti Thanks this.

I think the guys who mentioned the right drivetrain and arctic package gave good advise. But after that, it comes down to appearance and quality.
You must really like the looks of those Coronados. Personaly, I can only think of two possible reasons why anyone seriously considers purchasing a NEW 'Shaker - 1) They like the looks, and/or - 2) Because 'Shakers are inexpensive.
There's a reason Freightliners are cheap, and it's mostly to do with quality, or lack thereof. This is also reflected in resale.
It was brought up that these trucks will be seeing big cities. Not sure just what that means specificaly, as you can go to any grocery wharehouse in any major city and see plenty of long hood W9s and 379/389s. They all get around just fine. However I suspect you may be in the HHG gig perhaps? If so, then yeah, maneuverability comes more into play due to the residential areas.
Well, I guess my final thoughts are that 'shakers just are not quite in the same league, quality wise, as a T660 T800 or W900. If you had 5,000+ trucks, then shakers might make better bottom line business sense. But for a small small fleet or O/O, I firmly believe PACCAR makes better sense, and I'm not talkin the 387 or T2000 types.
It sounds like you are on the fence right now between the Coronados vs the Kenworths. You said the wheels are "well greased", which tells me you are not looking at the Coronado as a means to get new trucks on the cheap. Therefore, you must be in them for the looks only. Yes?
Like the saying goes - Cheap shiet aint good, and good shiet aint cheap.
