What's your thoughts on new possible service hours

    Well I never considered sitting as working either, but would probably be laying instead of sitting or reading a book or something. Not sure what I could that could be considered work while I waited.

    Some people don't appreciate the value of time. Just wait until somebody gets held up for 3 hours at a shipper like 4 times in a week. It's all good, though- at least they can catch up on their reading or something. That's trucking!

    Some of us do appreciate the value of time, and would never think of going to a shipper that routinely held us up at all.
    It is part of trucking has been all my life and I don't see that changing anytime in the future. With the proposed if you are truly getting held up, you can at least take off now and still work, instead of just giving your time away.

    People are now able to take a "break", while working, while getting paid per mile driven. How is this not giving their time away?

    You can delay your clock 3 hours per day, which means you're going to be home that much later, but that's not giving away your time?

    They are estimating it will save $274 million. They made changes to hours of service, so it's pretty obvious that they are saving money by not paying drivers for their time.

    Your first sentence nailed it. if you are taking a break, you are not working.
    Nobody oas far as I know is forcing anybody to wait, give time away or even look at a truck if they don't want to.
    I am not going to wait on anybody to load a truck, or at least do not plan to, I played that game for almost 6 months, and decided it was not for me, but I sure might pull over and take a nap anytime I feel the need instead of having to push on like everybody has to right now, just because some jerk thinks he knows how everybody feels.

    These lazy sob's ain't gonna park, they already don't.

    I mean I like the choice of being able to meet this stupid break with on duty, but I'd rather just get rid of the 30 altogether. If you can satisfy it while unloading a trailer, is it really necessary?

    I’m not arguing that. I think the 30 is pointless. We’re supposed to be professionals, and if I’m tired I’m stopping. I don’t need a regulation like I’m bagging groceries that requires breaks.

    The point is, it is a thing we have to live with. I’d like to believe that if new drivers are taught how to satisfy the 30 and learn a little professionalism on how to treat our fellow drivers the change is a good thing.

    I’ll stop because I feel like I’m pontificating like someone who actually knows what they’re talking about.

    Welcome to what happened to the IT industry. I guess it was bound to happen eventually when you hear the media saying there is a shortage of drivers and the pay can be good.

    And everybody missed the first bullet point ... The 30 minute break is tied to 8 hours on the drive line instead of the current on duty line.

    As far as suspending the 14 ... You're missing the point ... Pull into the shipper on the 13th hour, suspend the 14 while you're loading. Then you have the time to legally rollout and shut down.
