I'm a wannabe trucker. With all the summer months still ahead of us. I was wondering how OTR company drivers that don't have APU's. Get your rest with all the new anti-idling laws and rules out there?
Anti-idling laws. Company drivers, how do you get rest if you don't have a APU?

I idle the truck and I see lots of others doing the same. Personally if a cop wanted to write me a ticket he'd have to get a warrant. If I'm in the sleeper idling on private property or even a rest area I'm not opening the door for him. I will speak to him through the sleeper window and tell him that I'm on a federally mandated break and he can write my company a ticket and leave it on the winshield if he wants, or I'll deal with him when I come back on duty. If he doesn't like that he can get a warrant.
Bald Eagle and YbeLegal Thank this. -
We idle period. And we don't go to other countries, that don't allow idling.

Set the truck to high idle and crank up the a/c. To hell with idle restrictions. My company has them but i'm not suffering with no a/c till they remove the a/c from the office at our terminal.
Bald Eagle, 7mouths2feed, zincman and 2 others Thank this. -
I'll keep idling in adverse conditions until they drag me out of the truck for it. Then I'll go do something else for a living. I'm not living like a caged animal in a hotbox for anyone.
PharmPhail, zincman, longbedGTs and 3 others Thank this. -
Really, people. Stand your ground on this one. You take too much up the ### everywhere else.
Working Class Patriot Thanks this. -
Won't be any ground given on my end.
I'll walk if I'm told to turn my truck off.
When one of these companies gets nailed for a heat stroke, as a work related injury. You'll see some things change.zincman and BubbaTrucker Thank this.
