People who blame elogs for speeding are the same people who will blame the ATM machine because their balance is low.
“Oh, the reason I robbed the bank is because the ATM machine wouldn't give me more money.”

Has anybody EVER given a viable answer to the question "how do you plan for an all lanes blocked accident out ahead of you?"

Every time I see that question it gets so quiet you can hear a pin drop

    peterd and Cabinover101 Thank this.

The same way you do with paper logs? Oh wait, that’s the “flexibility” guys talk about. Lol

And the traffic overlay on Google Maps is helpful unless the accident happens right in front of you.

    Cabinover101 and tarmadilo Thank this.

Trip planning ain’t rocket surgery, and neither is reacting to changing conditions. And neither one is affected by the method of logging, unless you’re the kind of person that can’t get it done in 11 hours.

How did people with paper logs plan for backups like that without violating the HOS?

The problem with this article is that they chose to focus on exceeding the speed limit instead of simply driving faster than the load requires. That would have been a completely defensible argument. I regularly drive the speed limit, not because the load requires it, but because I need to preserve my 70 for the next load.

Be ready to take the first available exit and go around it! 2 lane roads dont bite... I promise.

Because the answer is so simple as to not need an answer. But since you do, simply replan. Not that hard.
If you get enough warning go around. If you don't, well you are in a parking lot so set the brakes and pull out your truckstop guide and note where possible stop locations are.

I guess some of the wise cracks on this thread from the eld fans must get paid for missing appointments and than off putting your next load for 2 days. But I've not found a job like that.

Outbound loads I make my own appointments and I don’t make them so tight that a traffic snarl is the difference between making it or not. Return loads I can unload 24/7 whenever I show up. The main reason I like mine is I make quite a bit of money off detention pay. 95% of the time they pay no questions asked when I submit a copy of my log showing exactly how long I was at their location. No more he said / she said when it comes to how long I sit someplace.
