Where is everyone #5

Speaking of them my interstates are at least 5 years old or 6. Guess I better go look in my book. Might be best to change before winter. But that Delco 39mt starter seem to be rather easy on batteries. With that said summer heat is when most batteries fail.

 

I always pushed CAT Batteries and customers seemed to like them. "Most" of the time they had a special on them through CAT's in-house web page the public doesn't see and our Parts Manager never mentioned unless I mentioned it. Anyway, they always seemed to perform well and were much heavier than other brands like some have mentioned.

Having picked up freight for 3 years at the local Exide plant I can tell you that they have made batteries for John Deere, Interstate, Auto Zone, etc....they build them to the customer's specs and put the customer's labels on them. So the big brands are made by different companies and/or locations and not all are created equal.

 

Who ever made the OEM ford and A/c delco batteries used to be great. Now the A/c come from china and good for 5 years at best. Dont know about the ford ones.

 

I took that thing out a long time ago.

 

East Penn became the supplier to Caterpillar in 1985 for batteries. I am not sure who the current supplier is, or if it has even changed, but my experience with Cat batteries has been the same as yours. I don't know if they require a sturdier internal construction or just what the difference is, but we sure have good luck with them. On our 320D excavator for example, it still has the batteries that were in it when we purchased it in 2014, and it is subjected to harsh treatment relative to truck use as well as cold winter starts after having set for long periods of time. We do shut the master switches off on our equipment when they aren't going to be used for awhile though.
