Is it true that if Swift drivers speed at 1mph or more over the speed limit for at lest one minute, that they will have safety points against them? Even while driving in cruise control and using the Jake Brake, it would be difficult to maintain the speed limit on steep downgrades. If this in fact policy, it would mean drivers constantly taking their eyes off of the road in order to look at their speedometer. I assuming that Swift monitors the Qualcomm speed reading and not that of the truck, which are usually different by at least 1mph.
Swift speeding policy and safety points?

My friend and I were driving together were heavy and a light swift caught up to us at the top of the hill.. and we started pulling away from him. He threw it in neutral and flew by us around 80mph my friends says on. The c.b... he was fired before he even made it to the bottom. Lmao
truckdriver31 and buddyd157 Thank this. -
When going down a steep incline, most companies have a policy against excessive speeding. If your truck is goverened at 65 and you're going down a hill at 70 plus they might consider that excessive speeding and that you can't control the vehicle.
If it happens too often you could get that phone call. You don't want that phone call.
If your truck isn't goverened then you still need to maintain control of your vehicle when going down a steep incline. I have seen drivers going over 70 down a hill. They were probably empty but that is way too fast for a truck downhill imo. -
Company name is swift ,shouldn't be a speeding policy !

I don't worry about safety points. Figures with some of the things I have to do with a big rig anyhow will cost a bit of money, I cannot spend or enjoy what I don't see based on some faceless safety points for 1 mph etc. State of Maryland does have a absolute law saying you will be punished for going 1 mph beyond the speed limit. Other than that I don't care what is on the speedometer. If the horsies and so forth are managed right that load will get there when it gets there. There is no incentative to me to be strict on the speed for a few dollars. It's not a concern.
The reason I take this position is that when I am on ice up in Wyoming and on interlock both axles sliding at 15 mph for a few hundred miles for a very long time... in a storm be happy that we are making progress. Hopefully.truckdriver31 Thanks this. -
It isn't 1 over the speed limit, it is anything over the maximum allowable speed of Swift. It has changed since we went to 65mph, it might be 68 or 69 for the first level of over speed warnings since we can bump it up to 67 for a short time each day.
Over 70-71 can get you fired with the first offense, but it would have to remain at that speed for some time.
I have hit 70 once or twice on a down hill, but it didn't last more than a couple seconds. Nothing was said.
And it really isn't that hard to control your speed.Sirscrapntruckalot and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
