A couple weeks ago I was going through a small town near my home, well
just before entering town the speed limit drops from 55 to 30 mph. It was
3 a.m and I had just woke up and like you slowed down just not soon enough
and was the lucky winner of a 56 mph in a 30 mph speed zone. 16 mph over
the limit and I was looking at losing my job and ruining my career since the
insurance companies put that up there with a DUI.

Anyway what I did was contact the mayor of the town told him what happend
and promised it would never happen again. I only had to pay a $150 fine down
from about $300 and had the ticket ripped up like it never happen.

If I were you I would try and do likewise.

Aren't small rural towns wonderful? :yes2557:

Definition of a "hick". Person who wants you to obey the law. But is willing to help you out of an honest mistake (the first time). Especially if it may hurt the well being of your family.

Proud to be a hick...for more than 40 years :biggrin_25517:

Theres one small town near here that anexxed (sp?) a couple hundred
feet of interstate on the edge of town and sit just over an overpass and
hand out tickets every day of the week.

So if any of you ever run up I-49 in Louisiana watch it at the 25 mile marker.

That may change on you :D

About 2 or 3 weeks ago, LA passed a ruling that requires any city that writes a ticket on the interstate, to submit all fines to the State. Then the state will send the city their share.

It would seem, the State felt the cities might not be sending them their share LOL

You guys have a great "local/state" talk show host in the Shreveport area I like to listen too. He covers the state politics really well.

    I almost brought that up!

There was also something about a city or town could only get
a certain % of their revenue or budget from traffic citations.
After that percentage the rest would be kept for the state.

It supposed to end the speed traps.

    ...............yeah right huh?

    46 or 56? 56 in a 30 would have been 26 over.

Good catch!! It was 56 so yeah I would have been in a bind huh?

Musta been why he didn't give me my license back when he gave
    me the ticket.

    I don't know how I didn't catch that!:biggrin_25526:

Thanks. I wasn't trying to be nit-picky, I just wanted a feel for just how bad the ticket was.

Yeah it sucked I had to go on that run and one to WV with just the
stub from the bottom of the ticket as my license.

Shoulda seen the look I got when I was trying to enter the Port and showed
them the stub for my license.
