I've had both tailgate me. Didn't like either one. Matter of fact just this afternoon, as I was getting on the freeway. I had plenty of time to merge. The car behind me however did not. He comes out in front of a semi.
The big trucks on the horn, the four wheeler never even speeds up.
And they wonder why they get run over! -
Passing on the right is not only illegal, it is down right stupid......even on a 20 lane highway.
Slower traffic keep right. -

As long as you are on the road not the shoulder use proper turning signals and not passing over a solid yellow line you are fine:smt045

PASSING ON THE RIGHT
You should usually pass other vehicles on the left, but passing on the right is allowed in certain situations. You may pass a vehicle on the right only in the situations listed below, and only if you can do so safely. You may not drive on or across the shoulder or edge line of the road unless a sign permits it. You may pass on the right:
* When a vehicle ahead is making a left turn.
* When you are driving on a one-way road that is marked for two or more lanes or is wide enough for two or more lanes, and passing is not restricted by signs.
If you are going to pass on the right at an intersection, check traffic ahead carefully. Make sure an oncoming vehicle is not turning left into your path, and watch out at the right side of the road for pedestrians, bicyclists, in-line skaters and moped riders.
Before you pass on the right on multilane roads such as expressways, make sure you check your mirrors, use the proper signals for lane change, and look over your right shoulder for other vehicles. After passing, be sure to check over your left shoulder, and to signal, before returning to the left lane.
Looks as if I was mistaken....Of course this is from the NY State DMV. -
Thanks for helping to clear up that misconception.

To the thread starter:You obviously have NO CLUE how traffic works. IF you are not passing anyone in the right lane then you need to MOVE RIGHT. It's that simple. The reason so many pass on the right is because so many clog the left. Heavy fines and suspensions should be levied to idiots that ride in the passing lane without passing.Even if they are DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT,as some of these inconsiderate hoggers seem to use for an excuse. SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT WHEN NOT PASSING. This applies to lanes 2 AND 3. In most states a truck can't legally use the 3rd lane to pass so the middle lane is the passing lane. If you are going slower than the flow of traffic than you need to move right and let the truck pass. It is not your business to play traffic cop in the middle lane.
