I'm so glad that they are able to add all these good team jobs. Like six years ago the big thing was the billions they invested into the rail network and were able to cut a day off a lot of ground times, now they want it all in trucks....kinda funny. I'm glad because it's adding jobs but still kinda funny. We didn't have a pcm for like six months straight that didn't bring up all the money they were spending on rail because that was the way to get it done faster lol.

Yeah rail isn't faster than teams. And when a train with 50 or so UPS trailers loaded with 1000s of packages each is late, that is a ton of packages that blow service. This happens quite often.LtlAnonymous and FlaSwampRat Thank this.
-
Couldn't have told anyone that then lol. They were even moving feeder runs out of our hub because trains were gonna bring it all lol. That's awesome that so many jobs are getting added, hopefully they find the right guys to fill them so it doesn't turn into a #### show of street hires that don't know what they are getting into.LtlAnonymous, Texas_hwy_287 and De Trucker Thank this.

Yeah they are looking for experienced sleeper team drivers. Which they have found a lot of. But I'm sure there will be a few idiots thrown in the mix as well.LtlAnonymous and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

They got screwed by the trains quite a few times. When the oil boom was going on a few years ago, they were giving oil priority over UPS loads and UPS loads were late as a result.
UPS kinda waged war so to speak because of it but were lured back in with cheap rates.
I think UPS is a lot more serious this time.LtlAnonymous and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Smelling my own body odor is one thing. I sure don’t want to smell someone else’s.

You can make 100k running solo doing linehaul. I know from firsthand experience.GhentSaintPeters, LtlAnonymous and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

His range was a little off, though. It's not typically $2k - $2,500. I'd say more like $1,700 - $2,200. @Russian Rabbit 's thread illustrates that. Also, I think he's conflating LTL solo linehaul pay with LTL team pay and UPS solo feeder pay. If he thinks the floor of LTL linehaul pay is $100k per year, he's gonna be disappointed. However, it's nothing to sneeze at, and certainly more than most truck drivers make.
I would just caution @GhentSaintPeters against having unrealistic expectations. Pay and job duties (like dock work) can vary widely both between companies and by terminal, as well as by seniority.jmz, GhentSaintPeters, LtlAnonymous and 4 others Thank this. -
With no seniority it's hard to make that 100k unless you get lucky out the gate. Only other way to make it out the gate ie extraboard but your gone 5 days..GhentSaintPeters, Bob Dobalina, De Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
I’ve had a bid for 100% of the time I’ve been on linehaul with the exception of the two weeks when I first started that were right before the winter bid. I’m back to having no one under me since the 1 I did have quit for greener pastures but when I did have him, he was in the same lane directly beneath me. I’d have 2 under me actually if they didn’t axe my previous bid as well, but back to the bottom for now.
So no, going XB right out the gate doesn’t even guarantee 100k to start, but getting lucky and being in a center that has decent runs.
The xtra board that loves being on XB and 3 spots senior to me as well as having been topped out since last year is still trailing me in ytd earnings because he was slaughtered when corporate was aggressively cutting runs. A few times he went over a week with no work. The only saving grace and reason I never felt that kind of pain (although I was also victim of cuts) was that I took a bid, even if it was perceived as a garbage bid.
Gotta get lucky.GhentSaintPeters and LtlAnonymous Thank this.
