It doesn't need dunnage but rubber.
Having the steel frame on your deck was the killer.

I’ve never hauled any oversized stuff like that. So you’re saying like some old conveyor belt material or something on the trailer deck just to create some friction?

I carried a few pieces like that, used coil pads.

True, but I tend to think chain installation issue on this one. Never see guys throw rubber under containers.

    Yes.
    Step 1 is creathing friction.
    Step 2 is securement.

D.Tibbitt, Lepton1, Tug Toy and 3 others Thank this.

The way he chained it was strike 2.
The idiot driver was strike 3.

The 3° event.............maybe he cannot change that.
Strike 1 and 2 could have been avoided.

    INRUT and starmac Thank this.

What about a trip chain across the front using coil pads to protect the compressor....would've likely kept it from sliding forward and in turn shifting to one side.

    Lepton1 and jamespmack Thank this.

Ok, it doesn't matter at all what is under it or how much friction it has if it is not secured, but belive it or not just some cardboard helps keep something like that from sliding.

    Except containers:
1 are never wider than 96" which means straps pull almost straight down, where they are most effective.
2 have places at the top for chaining to again pull straight down. The mount on this is 8 inches above and outside the trailer.

Tug Toy and daf105paccar Thank this.
