I don't know how I did it with a flat top Pete for a year. Granted, a modern 63" flat top, you can equip with both a microwave and a fridge (Iowa 80 has got a great, but very expensive slide-in unit for one of the closets), but it's costly to retrofit to an older truck.

My ideal sleeper, if it's just me in the truck, is that 60" Mack. Despite the headroom problem in the cab, the sleeper offers the most space in the smallest package. Shelving everywhere (with the ability to add your own quite easily), big bed and two huge windows and vents. Open them all up and the breeze comes right in.

And outside of a Paccar product with a CAT or pre-emissions Cummins, I'd say Mack's are second on my list in terms of preference for performance and looks. The R-model and CHU613 just got that look that screams "work truck".

Having only ever been in paccar products as far as sleepers go I'll take a 72" "mid" roof Pete. My international has the tiny 48 but it's not something I'd stay overnight in if I could help it. I've looked at a cascadia evolution and it had a really nice sleeper but the cabinet behind the drivers seat made it not have much for leg room for my large frame.

Most of the time I do travel light. Whatever fits in a normal size duffel is all i take. But now that I've got to really watch what I eat a fridge would at least be nice. And enough room of course to move around.

Had a good ride this afternoon. I've been riding mostly maintained trails the last season and a half. Kinda bored of it so I found some wicked single track trails in the bush. Rode a twisty downhill trail with drop offs literally about 12-18 inches from a 70 foot vertical drop into the river. Feels good to push outside the comfort zone a bit. Avoided the bigger drops and the wooden ramps. Not quite there yet lol.

Of course, this is from a guy who claims to have invented anti-lock brakes, and from listening to him tell it, the wheels, the tires, the AIR that goes in the tires....o_O

When all you do is drive, when do you find time to eat? LOL

Those coffin sleepers are for regional work. Yeah yeah, old school this, old school that, sleeping across a piece of plywood laid out over the driver and passenger seat, yadda yadda.

Trucking has evolved since those days, and for a company to expect a guy to go 2-3 months on the road they should expect him to WANT to live out of the truck. 5-6 days in a flat top with resets at home? No problem. Weeks at a time? Need the condo.

I get the bulk industry wants to save weight, but there are other things that can be sacrificed to increase payload space (like company monitoring systems, lol) and I think Kenworth has probably one of the best 70" condos on the market next to Mack's new Anthem sleeper. Their swivel passenger seat, swinging table, every-way TV mount setup is easily the best on the market for lounging (I never got to use one on the road, but I sat in one New Hope had).
