Surely it is going to be dependent on the area you live in. There is an OTR driver at my company with years of experience and all endorsements that would really like a local job where he lives in Orlando but can't find anything paying him what he makes OTR.

In other less populated areas, local companies may need to pay more to get drivers if they don't have 20-30 applicants vying for an open position.

Get with a company who has a bit of everything i.e truckload local (city p&d) linehaul and dedicated, then you can always move around without changing companies. Where I currently work at I started as a truckload and moved to city p &d. Anyways good luck on your search.

The word experience has caused too much pain among anyone wanting to drive a big truck far away across these United States.

I prefer to think of it as a Journey doing something larger than you ever will be maintaining our Nation in commerce that keeps all of it going.

I say enough is enough about the word experience in hiring. If you worked 30 years schlepping a trash truck that weights 60000 and three axles in all seasons up and down a landfill goat trail. I'll hire you instantly.... The idea that you now have to run 3000 miles in 5 days is something you will have to develop as you go.

Exactly!!! All depends on your area. To say one pays better as a blanket statement is silly.

What it really comes down to is the company that an individual truck driver works for, along with what the company is willing to pay.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Nothing comes out of Florida then regular states why there is more need for local city drivers to pick up freight in other states. If a state doesn't have any freight to produce then the demand for local driver goes down.

The debate between OTR vs Local will never ever stop, no matter how hard we try, it will never stop. If you are a new"ish" driver , just find something and get the experience for a year or so , you don't have to marry a job .....just get the experience to open more doers for you. If 18 bucks is cool with you, and you want the job.....take it! Don't worry about anything we have to say , it's your life , your CDL, and your decision.

Do u still feel this way?? I've been local tanker for 4 years and I think I'm loosing my mind. Back and forth, to the fuel racks, tonthe stations, to the fuel racks to the stations.
The beginning of last year I moved to hauling g crude, the money is good, but I'm doing the same kinda stuff but I'm covered in mud and oil and dealing with bugs and snakes for 10- 14 hours a day. I dive flatbed otr, and dont think I put in this much work. Aside from living in the truck which I didnt hate, I really only drive 8-9 hours a day, listening to audiobooks and relaxing to great scenery. Sure there is LA, Chicago, etc but those weren't every day.

I'm trying to convince myself to go otr again, typing it out helps lol
