Question About Straight Truck Pay

For what it's worth, here's my two cents. First, it's not a bad rate. Is it a good rate? It depends on whether the company is also charging you for weekly things like Qualcomm, insurance, trip pack, you get the idea. If they are covering some of these weekly costs, it is probably a decent rate, if not, well then it's just ok or maybe even a bit low. Next, fuel surcharges charged to customers float up and down weekly. If yours is fixed and the fsc goes up because fuel goes up you are missing out on some money that should be coming to you. Obviously, the reverse is also true, but fuel is more likely to go up in the forseeable future. So the company keeps the balance of the fsc they collect to cover costs involved in paying you deadhead money or detention. Larger issue I see is can YOU make money on those terms. If yes then it's a good rate.

I get paid 60% of what my loadd pays plus 100% fuel surcharge

 

I drive for a fleet owner and get 60% of the load + 100% of the FSC. I get 100% of any DH and 100% of any Detention pay. I also get 100% of a Dry run

 

60/40 split is standard. Bad is you pay for the fuel and you dont get to keep the truck or anything. Panther sucks though. Good luck with them.

I have posted this a couple other places...so I apologize for repeating myself. I told this guy I'd call him by noon EDT tomorrow.

I have been offered a co-driver position by a guy who says the drivers get 40% (20% each) of what the load pays and the company pays all the expenses of the truck.

His average...he says...is $500-600 per week gross. As contractors, the drivers are responsible for their own self employment taxes, etc.

This number sounds low to me. Am I missing something?

 

At 20% after al of your expences you will be broke and don't even think of not doing your taxes . It will only drag you down even more!
