Lifting a full lumber tarp just proves how stupid you are that you can’t figure out some other way to do it.....work smarter.

You're right about that. Every blue moon in have to lift the lumber tarp off the ground. It's not so bad if they have 6 foot drops, but those 8 foot ones, my goodness. It's better to have the forklift get it for you all day. I hate when loads are 13 foot high and the forklift can barely get to the top

Well I must be one stupid sob, because there has been a few times I not only lifted them to my shoulder, but climbed a ladder to put them on a load. I will say it was always someone elses tarps and load, and just did it because they had let them get away from them and blow off the load, and the loader was already gone.

once a guy or gal handles tarps a wek or two, it is no big deal to put them on the trailer if you need to, they get easier after a few days. I carried mine in a side box on some of my trailers, so had to put them by hand,

Good luck to you, and I mean that sincerely.

In my state, you need to prove you've worked under a licensed contractor for a year (or two) before you can get licensed. You might need to learn a trade and do that for a while before starting your contractor career sitting in an expensive, new, shiny truck. Hey! You can already do that! :D

I've got many contractor friends. Some do very well, but have to deal with being sued by rich customers and otherwise kiss buttox all the time. Some go through a revolving door of superintendents and have to deal with their lead carpenters getting thrown in jail for this and that. The one contractor who is the happiest is my neighbor. He is 65 and still wears a tool belt every day.

Managing people, especially in the construction industry, is something I'm loathe to do. I did a year as a production supervisor for Motorola in south Florida. It was the worst job I've ever had, and these kids weren't even meth-heads and they all spoke English. :D

Probably my carpentry magnum opus, but this lady had lots of money, but ZERO taste. She couldn't get enough of the grape corbels and vanilla glaze. IMG_4488.JPG

Thanks, The good thing is I already have the experience to get my licensing, just need a refresher course.

Once done I’m setting out on my own. Only reason I’m in a truck now (not a shiny one) is to provide for family.

But the more and more I look, owner operators are getting squeezed out of the industry, slowly this Industry will go the way of the minimum wage employee and then automated once the last penny is squeezed out.
