I finished August with almost $20K revenue too at about 11K miles but it felt like sacrificing a lot of home time. Either, I got too lazy or too old to stomach OTR life. For me staying 3-4 nights in a row in the truck became too much to handle. But at least we know that things have not gotten any worse this last month. I hope that the rest of the year should be at least on August level.

Well, one good month and I’m starting off this one with a bang...not. Sitting at an International dealer right now with a faulty in tank DEF sensor, saying I have no DEF and has me in derate. Luckily I’m empty. This sensor shares a data link with a DOC inlet temperature sensor. It’s also throwing a code. They say once they replace the DEF sensor it should clear the DOC code as well. The sensor itself is about 300.00 but the bad part is the labor to do the job. It’s going to take them until about 1pm tomorrow, so 5-6 hours of labor. Probably looking at throwing down a grand tomorrow on this.

No warranty for that?! So far everything was going smooth with the truck.

I don’t have an extended warranty. I’m not sure this would be covered anyway, since it’s not a Navistar component and it’s not part of the after treatment system itself. It’s just a sensor inside the DEF tank. The sensor itself isn’t so bad, it’s just a lot of labor to get to it and get it out.

I got lucky. It was under warranty. It was not the DEF sensor, it was the DOC inlet temp sensor. I’ve got the truck back and warranty covered it. Luckily I was empty and don’t have to worry about a late load and all those problems.
