Can't comment much there. XPO, OD and R+L will hire line off the street and only xpo has forced dock work. Im sure small barns are an exception for the other 2. Always have to the option to volunteer for extra work though. I turn down extra work and save my clock for an extra line run just because it simply pays substantially more. It also seems popular that city guys don't like running line, and line doesn't like to work city but that is off a limited survey on the 3 barns I've worked at.

I ran a P&D route yesterday with a guy named Mike. It wasn't too bad. The day went really quickly. Unloaded and loaded all of the freight, but it was super easy with the pallet jack. All in all it was a good experience... I've got a tough choice ahead of me. P&D or OTR.

Also, P&D at Magnum doesn't have to ever work the dock. Something I was happy to find out.

 

No idea where you’re located but I can tell you R&L and XPO ... DO NOT ... hire off the street for line haul, not in Florida, North Carolina or South Carolina. I tried and have over 20 yrs and a clean record. I would love line haul, no interest in p&d. Glad it worked out for you.

As far as OTR goes, from all of my research, Magnum would be one of the very few I would consider working for.

It was good for about the first Minute, I got Lucky and got the Most Delusional Racist, Apparently He hates White People, Doesn't even really want to Train, Knew He Could get the CPM Raise even if he doesn't have a Trainee, Apparently He Believes That Black People are Native Americans and indians are A mix between Black and White. He Believes saying the word Honkee isn't Racist, And No Black person can be Racist. I Drove 400 miles, We park, He called 3 people While I was sleeping and Told them I couldn't Read Road Signs, and That Im a Danger to the Public, Talk about Shocked.
So I told Mark the safety Manager, And He Refused to Listen, I was my Trainers First Trainee, I dont have a glasses Restriction on my License and pass my DOT and Dmv exams every time.
They Terminated me no questions Asked, He must had made up a #### good story, Obviously I wouldn't had made it 400 miles if I couldn't see, and he Wouldn't had let me Drive if that were The Case.
Pretty Much Drivers Beware, A Trainer can get you Terminated if they say you aren't Safe, Beware Magnum will Get you to fargo, But They aswell Admit you will not get a Trip home, But they may Bus you.

I was Very Shocked with All this, Good luck to everyone.
