Hey guys set to start training October 16th just got permit and paid it's a privately held out of pocket school but it's a weekend course that goes saturday sunday for about 3 months I've had a few ppl tell me it will be difficult to retain information only going 2 days a week?is this true?if I didn't have a full time job now I would definitely be going for weekday course but that's not pheasable any other truckers do a weekend course how was it?
You'll be ok. Many people do the weekend program when they need to keep their current job while training.
I did four months of weekends while killing crabs for people to eat in the work week. Trust me the information gained was retained, even all these years. Last time I touched a semi was around the 2010 era in auction boss role. Be no problem at all moving them things down the road.
I did the same exact thing and it worked out fine. I got my CDL in January 2012 after 9 weekends of training. Believe it or not I did not actually start driving a truck until July 2014. I remembered everything just fine even 2 1/2 years later.
I took weekend classes myself and it was very hard learning that way. The classes were big and i would only get 2 or 3 turns in a 10hr day. Sunday at my school was reserved for driving practice. It was tough for me and took me forever to learn how to alley dock but i eventually got everything down passed my dmv test on my third shot and the rest is history.
I think doing the weekend thing over months is way better than cramming everything into 2-3 weeks. Pre trip is big, followed by shifting, and then scanning everywhere. And remember it's better to be too slow than too fast
During the week, study at home and memorize as much as you can for the pre-trip inspection and hazmat written test. Get the hazmat endorsement because that opens more job opportunities. Some waste companies require it.
