hey guys, I’m a class A driver, but have never had to deal much with the regulatory side of things much. I am moving from WV to south GA and found a killer deal on a day cab tractor. I will be moving all our stuff including my farm equipment, thinking it may be cheaper to move it myself than pay someone to do it. Would I need DOT, IFTA, MC and all that good stuff or being it’s not for hire, personal use would I be exempt from any of that? Or would it just be more of a hassle than it’s worth.
Thanks Guys!

Moving the farm equipment isn't personal. You might fall under some ag exemption for the states you are going through.
If not you are a private carrier hauling your own equipment in a for profit enterprise (the farm). You'll need everything a general freight carrier will need except an m.c. number.
Best bet is simply call each states DOT and see if there is an ag exemption in each state you will be traveling in. My guess would be no. -
I got pulled into a dot inspection site once with no decals temp tag in texas insurance from progressive and he asked was I leased or in commerce I told him I just bought it. He got mad and had to let me ride.

all he needs is a tag and reg for the equipment weight. theres no difference in renting a uhaul and uhaul trailer.

It's the farm equipment that causes a problem and makes it no different than Walmart delivering from their DC to their stores. -
