I was workin at The Daily News. Unloading a truckload of newsprint that day. We had a little electric forklift and the batteries died. I was almost done. Plugged the charger in and saw folks gathered around the tv in the mail out room. I went in and watched the second one hit. Like you said reality set in. Was sure eerie walkin outside. No jet trails, businesses empty in the middle of the day right downtown. Folks picking up their kids from school and headed home.

Scared. We all were. Didn’t know who we were up against and what their next move was gonna be. Like @Lysdexis said, we all stood together as one.

To you and all others who served and are serving: thank you.

Thank you to all you military folks. I'm glad there are folks like you out there willing to enter the service. I know I probably couldn't do it.

    You are correct.
And there were some states mostly in the East that just numbered exits numerically, exit 1 could be 10 miles from the state line and exit2 was 14 miles further. I think most states have changed the numbering system now but it was a nightmare trying to trip plan (or fix your logs) when you had to add each distance up to figure your time.

I was at home and waiting on a delayed load going to Long Island that had been held up for a week due to quality control. My sister phoned me and told me to turn on the tv after I assured her I was not on Long Island yet and had not even loaded yet. I watched the second tower get hit live.
To my knowledge that load never did ship.
The company that I was leased to did all their transport and I do know we had no trucks east of Chicago for 3 months after 9/11
