Yes I know you don’t understand. You appear to me to be woefully ill prepared. Furthermore I have never seen anyone in the trucking industry refer to fuel as “gas” which you have done repeatedly. I question if you even drive a truck.

If you do really drive a truck, start keeping track of expenses. For example What fuel mileage do you get? What is your fuel cost per mile? How much would you pay yourself to drive?

$850 a week take home payroll is
Probably better pay than $1500 gross profit.

    Good luck.

I started out on my own running hotshot because I had that same thought of "how hard could it be" and afted owning an excavation co for 10yrs I knew how to figure my operating costs and I already owned the truck & trailer. I leased onto a guy and he had me running a lot of short local loads that didnt pay much. I figured out his scam and took a planned vacation and decided when I got back I wasnt running for him any more. Moved from Houston to San Antonio area, found out freight in SA sucked and leased onto another guy in outside of Houston. He ran me all over and screwed me pretty good because I didn't know how to bid freight real well. I told him to F off after a few mo's and losing probably 3k after my expenses.

Took another break and went back to running my excavation equipment as a cash business for about a year till I got tired of idiot people wanting basically free labor. Decided to run a truck for someone and learn everything I could. Thats been my last 5yrs.

I spent some time running for my mom's husbands truck and their own operating authority and learned the back office stuff, dealing with brokers, etc. That came to an end because working for family doesnt always work out.

Now I have 5yrs of knowledge of what not to do. This whole year Ive run for a very good flatbed co and have almost every freedom as our lease operators. I run the truck like I own it. I work on it, I do the maintenance and upkeep. I know what the freight pays and I choose what freight I run and where I run, minus the fact that I cant just go take weeks or a month off if I want.

But you think that after a year, you're just gonna go out get a truck and make those big dollars that those lease operators make. Guess what chief, those who are boasting about all the $ their making are the ones most full of ####. They've had their trucks just long enough to see some decent settlements, but most dont have enough $ to cover any sort of major breakdown.

You think you're the only one who has those aspirations of running out and getting your own truck after a whole year in this business? Cause you're not. You thinking you can float yourself on credit until you hit it big is just gonna put you in debt.

But go ahead and go for it. Wtf do any of us know.

    Coffey and rank Thank this.
